I heard that Stephen Stills has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Has anyone else heard this. I hope it is only a rumor.

The news article I read said he has indeed been diagnosed as having prostate cancer -- but it was caught early, and therefore the prognosis is good.

*** GUYS: please don't put off being tested for this, and do it annually - it needs to be caught early. ***

I saw that story on Cnn.com. I'm so glad it was found early!

I'm turning 40 next year,I guess I'd better get checked soon huh?

Much of his music sounds pretty nice. I used to listen to it quite often.

Hopfully He'll do fine.

Anyway I thought it would be good to talk about his music.

Besides Love The 1 You're With there are a couple of other tunes that I think are much better.

Mary Ann from 1971 where he sounds different than he usually does.

Right Now from the following year which I think is his best song.

Speaking of that her's the song I mention.

YouTube - Stephen Still, Manassas- Right now

I should of mentioned his Group Mananassas though it's odd this photo has David & Graham who I don't think were part of the group.

Always did like these guys. Stills is the most talented one of the group. But these 3 voices together, Man that's music to my ears.

Yes, they were very fortunate to catch Stills' cancer early. Failure to get checked cost Dan Fogelberg his life as we would tell people after it was too late.

All but very rare prostate cancers are utterly treatable and very slow moving so periodic testing is all it takes to avoid tragedy. Two seconds of discomfort is a bargain. One it leaves the prostate the whole picture changes. OK, boys - get checked.

As far as Stills being the most talented, I will say that he's got the most versatile talent. That is to say he can sing well, write great tunes and play better than either Crosby or Nash (with all due respect neither Crosby nor Nash would get very far if all they could do was play).

That said, Nash writes some wonderful stuff. The first thing I heard these guys do was Marakesh Express, which is a great tune and Teach Your Children is, of course, a standard.

Crosby is pretty unique. He's a decent writer but not up with the other two. He's an adequate guitar player. However, he has the best pipes for harmony of anyone in the business and an insanely good ear for just what works. I'm most impressed with how he can pick between singing as high a tenor part as you'll want or finding the perfect middle ground when Nash (or anyone else) sing up high. Joe Walsh once commented on that. You'll hear this beautiful ringing harmony and there's a voice you don't hear separately but it's what makes the whole thing work. That's Crosby.

It's very nice that later in life David has become a nice human being. It took a long time and the very long road.

Oh - and once you throw Neil Young in teh whole equation changes but that's for another day.

I used to feel a little bleeped about just hearing Crosby, Stills, and Nash. What about Crosby, Stills, and Young ...or Crosby, Nash, and Young ... or Stills, Nash, and Young? I don't mean anything really. I'm just blabbing.

Myself, I was always more interested in the English artist, Graham Nash I think is his name, than I was the the others. I think it all had to do with his voice. All I know is that I also liked his sound alot when he was with the Hollies. Favourite song there was Stop, Stop, Stop. It has a really amusing story to it.
