Hi everyone! Just found this on the Wayne Francis site under the 'news' section!

Lightfoot will be joining Greg Godovitz and Bob Reid in studio - and taking calls - for a full hour on Rock Talk on CFRB 1010 radio on Sunday December 16 at 6 PM eastern time. The show will be repeated on Monday December 17 at 1 AM. Listen online at www.cfrb.com.

cfrb is a great station for so many varieties of 'talk' topics..gardening, law/human rights/social topics..
http://www.godobilly.com/welcome.htm Greg G. was a founder of a group I remember from when i was a kid - Fludd and then the hard rock GODDO - which I never cared for. He lived the lifestyle and wrote a book..when Rompin Ronnie says:" Greg has stories that would embarass Caligula" ya gotta know he's lived the sex, dugs, rock and roll life..!!

Thanks for the heads up... Fludd has a Lightfoot connection as well... Fludd is actually the beginnings of the Canadian rock group Saga. Saga's former drummer Steve Negus told me in an email a year ago that he grew up listening to Gord's music at his parent's place in Hamilton.

I tried listening to the station just now and had no luck (and I've got a pretty up to date Dell. I'll try again, but hope it gets posted somewhere.

We are being hit by a major storm here in Toronto and I'd imagine there'd be a chance that Lightfoot wouldn't venture out to drive to the CFRB broadcast location..but he just might! I'll be listening and try to get a call in..

it's CRAZY snowing! and crazy blowing.. I for one am staying inside - except to go out and shovel my walks and driveway later today..

I have mentioned that I HATE winter haven't I??

(30cm is 12 inches)
Last year at this time (the last couple of weeks as well) the weather was very mild and some days only a coat was required - even in the evenings.. The Massey shows period of time was also unseasonably warm last year.
We had summer last so long this year and then it went immediately into winter ...
sheesh!!

I was interviewed by phone on CFRB on The Motts show back in 2001 I believe regarding some school issues/extra curricular activities being withdrawn in local high schools and students being suspended for staging a walk-out in protest-my son being one of them. (we were in a protest march outside the high school at the time I did the interview) Parents formed a coalition and were instrumental in getting the extras back and suspensions dropped after lots of tv/print/radio/meetings with gov.officials/school board etc.)

Char - I heard about your winter storm on the weather and also wondered if Lightfoot would be able to make it to the station. I'll be listening!!

I listened to the station last night and again this morning on line and it seems to be working fine.

compounding the problem of so much snow and wind is that during the night there was a few hours of freezing rain so that's under the snow..traffic cameras on highways etc. show practically nobody out on the roads anywhere. transit systems of buses/streetcars and trains are all running late or not at all and the airport has dozens of cancellations..
I'm sure Gord is out shoveling snow as we speak..
lol

Well, we're shoveling here in central NY: snow, sleet, more snow, more sleet, now some lake effect fluffy stuff, more snow to come before 7 a.m. tomorrow when it's expected to end here. Best approach - go out every three to four inches to shovel it off. If you wait too long, it's too heavy (my arms are still aching from the 6-7" we got last week.) Fortunately it's not enough (yet) that we're wondering where the heck to put the stuff, and there's a warm-up predicted for the end of the week, to the mid-30s. I don't mind the snow; it's the ice I hate. I wiped out twice a few days ago, and have the bruising to show for it.

Here in Moncton, at 2:16 pm not a snowflake yet. But you can tell it's coming.

Char I did watch the Barenaked Ladies last night on Bravo, and will be listening for that GL interview, if he makes it. ;)

I like any temp that is above 40F and if anyone wants to prepare food for me I'm more than willing to eat it!
We just came in from shovelling..We've had 10 - 12 inches since 6 a.m. and it's coming down just as hard a it was at that time..Some drifts were up to 18 inches..Pretty windy at times..Not really cold tho-that's why there's so much snow..if it dropped in temp it would stop..if it went up we'd get rain..
lol
if this is any indication of what the next 4 months will be like I better win a lottery RIGHT NOW!!!

Great job Char. I was just thinking that you were doing as professional a job as the two hosts in speaking with Gord, when they broke in and acknowledged the same.

Just a suggestion - those who feel so inclined, contact the 'Rock Talk' hosts and express your thoughts, excitement, appreciation, etc. Perhaps they could be convinced to have Gord on again sometime in the near future. They have a comments page just for such a purpose below.

and a nice shout out for Wayne's site..I mentioned it as well..
perhaps some audio might be archived..
I looked at pics at the site and now recognize the hosts from last Sunday at Barry's memorial - had no idea who they were tho.. I do remember the group Fludd..mostly cuz I had a friend whose last name was Flood..lol
great to hear Burton..even if he had to wait his turn..lolol

I have to pick up my prize package at CFRB-2 St.Clair at Yonge St. It's 2 blocks north of the EMP office..

Don't know what the prize package is..forgot to ask..oops...

some previous interviews are archived, including Burton..

Thanks for the welcome. While I'm new to this group, I am a long time member of the Gord Newsgroup. Too bad its mostly spam nowadays. This looks like an excellent replacement.

Many of you probably have some of the videos I recorded off of my satellite dish years back from Canadian stations. The Juno Awards, Governor's Awards, Gzowski Interview, New Years Eve 1999, House of Blues Special, Alan Thicke interview, and others. I have them on video tapes but will have to convert them to DVD so they last a long time :-)

Regarding the interview, if you have a digital recording, I can convert the file to MP3 for all to share.

Anyway, glad to be here and meeting some old friends again. Hopefully Derek, Doug, Shirley, and the rest of the old gang are here as well.

1) you can use windows (or apple) recording software to capture the stream as a wave file. most soundcards come with recording software.

2) then you use a program like dbpoweramp to convert it to mp3.

3) then you can use a file sharing site like www.yousendit.com or www.sendspace.com to upload it on the internet for the rest of us

davevoeltz

Joveski:

I have replay radio on my computer that does a super job of recording off of my sound card. Unfortunately I missed the program and can't record it after the fact :-)

Wow Dave Voeltz himself!! .
I remember reading some of your postings when I first started reading the Newsgroup regularly back in 1997.
As you pointed out the once almighty and vibrant Newsgroup has slid inexorably towards oblivion , since very few even
bother to post there anymore except cretins. I am just a tad surprised that it has taken you 8 years to find corfid though!!
because Florian did announce its creation on the Newsgroup back in 1999. See:-
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.music.lightfoot/msg/85e24483fcb705c3
doing a search within the alt.music.lightfoot newsgroup now on your surname reveals 102 postings, however the most recent was way back in 2002 when you replied to a Minnesotan thread started by John Wicklund aka Seafarer62 at:-
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.music.lightfoot/msg/85e24483fcb705c3
so you have not helped keep the NG going very much!!
and many from 1997/8/9 refer to your generous and much appreciated disemination of rare videos. good on yer!!
Yes we have a few of yours here courtesy of I believe Yuri.
I was particularly interested to see that you used to use a stereo Betamax.Do you still have it??? I have a pair of commercial stereo Betamax tapes
one by Stevie Nicks
http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/images/white_wing_dove.jpg
scan of front cover as previously displayed by me in a great corfid thread at:-
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=17224&highlight=nicks
the other is the Mac's Mirage tour but I have only ever had (as now) a mono Betamax recorder . I would therefore ask you to digitise them for me one day. but you would be of no help as my two tapes are in PAL format . Oh well nice thought or could you extract the stereo sound track regardless?? Probably not because as well as the incompatible colour coding method a PAL tape would only play back at a speed and/or different frame rate and my mono and PAL Betamax is of course unable to output a stereo sound signal
By the way John got here before you and posts here as surprise surprise, seafarer62
of the others you mentioned Doug Kirk posts here regularly as "doug", as occasionally does Anne Aspry (now in OK member name here "anneOK"),and the "Grande Dame" Shirley Hoggard also from OK of course is registered here and is now 70 see:-
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/member.php?u=14920
but has yet to post anything on corfid perhaps you could send her a private message and get her to write something here
I once got into trouble on the newsgroup trying to persuade young Kidd to come here and try to display a picture , infra dig on the non binary newgroup of course and I know Ed Mullen keeps away now from both the NG and corfid. Others here from the NG here include our most charmant Moderator personage CHar and Jenney and Tim Quinn.I am sure we all extend a very warm welcome to you Dave and look forwards to seeing much posting from you in future. There are some great personalities here and new fans appear every week so don't feel too bad that you have only just "got it", what kept you so long??? Better late than never eh?

johnfowles
12-20-2007, 01:08 PM
I had hoped that Gord's interview would be online by now but no its not (yet)
Perhaps CHar could contact her mate (Greg) at CFRB to try to get Gord's interview included on
http://www.cfrb.com/node/563961
I see the following luminaries are there now:-
Sylvia Tyson (http://www.cfrb.com/performer/42684/sylvia-tyson)
Roger McGuinn (http://www.cfrb.com/performer/104158/roger-mcguinn) (The Byrds (http://www.cfrb.com/performer/3810/the-byrds))
Micky Dolenz (http://www.corfid.com/vbb/performer/27308/micky-dolenz)(The Monkees (http://www.corfid.com/vbb/performer/4940/the-monkees))

Denny Doherty (http://www.corfid.com/vbb/performer/17091/denny-doherty) ( Mama's and Papa's (http://www.corfid.com/vbb/performer/4831/the-mamas-and-the-papas))
Stewart Copeland (http://www.corfid.com/vbb/performer/3966/stewart-copeland) (The Police (http://www.corfid.com/vbb/performer/5163/the-police))
Ronnie Hawkins (http://www.corfid.com/vbb/performer/4455/ronnie-hawkins)
Geoff Kulawick (Linus Entertainment)
I expect that Gord was asked if they could archive it but in the absence of Barry Gord probably said (as ever too modestly),. "no nobody will will want to hear that"!!
We managed to catch the 1AM repeat I and noted a caller named "Ray" from somewhere in the Tronno area who spouted on about a song he had composed called "lightfootin'."
This was undoubtedly one of the extremely rare non spam posters on the stoopid Yahoo fan club group Ray Murray his lyrics only are at:-
http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/kJ9qR11IdJwDuloe4AUkiX1ASLxC_kpYWPf-fz0D_gCYG4kZkPl5ZAjtORKN-lY8so7awVRA5KBCjRlTR-WxrYIs0fLmr1vN/Lightfootin%27.doc

I turned on a tape recorder for the 1 AM repeat, but the thing jammed for about 10 minutes at the 40-50 minute mark. I can make available what I have on MP3 or WMA, but if someone has the complete show, that would be better.

I collected my 'prize pack' today at CFRB. It was a lovely day in Toronto - grey and overcast but no wind and quite mild. The streets were brown and gritty and Yonge st. was a-bustling with Christmas shoppers from St.Clair all the way to the Eaton Centre at Shuter where the House of Gord (Massey Hall) is located. Lisa and I ate in a window booth at FRAN'S which is across the street from Massey and watched the folks walking by.
The Prize pack had: Harmony (not signed since Gord didn't make it to the studio) he owes me one!
Murray Mclauhclan - double cd -Best of - songs from the street.
Dala CD (autographed) - two young ladies who have performed in the Lightfoot trib.shows at Hugh's Room and will again in January.
Greg Godovitz autographed cd - host of the Rock Talks show on CFRB and founder of rock group "Goddo"
Goddo LIVE dvd- autographed, march 1979 first CHUM/CITY TV simulcast on TV concert.
STYX DVD- may 2006 concert with Cleveland contemporaty youth orchestra.
STYX - unauthorized true story of Styx book. autographed by author.
blair packham cd - autographed

Colin James was at Massey last night doing a XMAS show. We contemplated going but were pretty pooped out from our busy day with all the other Christmas crazies..

Well now that demands an answer from, me
When I first used my little battery operated reel to reel machine to make some historic GL audio recordings
1 It was all I could do to afford it in the first place
2 It was very nice and portable
3.I checked the inevitable wiki and read
"Philips (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philips) introduced the compact audio cassette medium for audio storage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_storage) in Europe in 1963, and in the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) in 1964, under the trademark (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trademark) name Compact Cassette."
Certainly when I bought my R to R machine in about 1967 a cassette recorder would no doubt as new technology have set me back about $100 (I do not even recall seeing one at that time and it was not until 1972 that I bought my first bog standard monaural Phillips cassette recorder for I guess about $110,00 in the UK;
http://www.technology-props.co.uk/frames/images/philips_el3301a.jpg
about 10 years later my first Sony Walkman (the first one with a built in FM radio) set me back about 90 pounds (say in those days $140.00) and amazingly of the 6 items made by friggin' Sony that I brought here in 2000 it is the only one still working , but that is a long and ultimately sad story. suffice to say except for consumables like blank CDs and tapes I have vowed never to buy anything bearing the 4 letter swear word "Sony" ever again!!
Now a comment about audio spoken mp3s.
You can in fact get away with a very low sampling rate, whereas audio mp3s need a minimium of 96 KBPS to sound reasonable, and 192 or even 256 is preferable I have here a floppy disk containing a single mp3 of 0.99MB.It is of an Australian Broadcasting Company broadcast from January 2007 concerning the Nevil Shute Gathering we went to in "The Alice" the following April.this mp3 runs for 4 minutes 21 seconds because the sampling rate is only 32KBPS. a 192 KBPs music mp3 would be proportionally six times larger i.e. nearly 6 MB
The calculation of mp3 file sizes is part of one of my ambitious ongoing tutorial projects, however I cannot readily find the formula , so I'll post this and return tomorrow

JJ, that's an eye-opener. I thought Burton Cummings & I were the only one's who mentioned Gord in song.
Yup, that's me playing a Takamine guitar at our Saturday afternoon "in the 'round" Jam at the Tranzac Club here in Toronto.

Maby we shall meet next time around,
Ray

JP CORMIER
The Poet

I remember the lonely poet that slipped in through my door.
His shadow lean and hungry lying on my parlor floor.
The world lay in shades of gray upon his pencil tip
And I rushed to catch the truth that was falling from his lips.

Well I don't know how he got there, when he came, he came alone.
Stealing through the dusty cracks of my brother's gramophone.
Sailing through the bitter green on rails made of steel.
He made a young boy's dreams of flying seem that they were real.

And he spoke to me in pictures I clearly understood.
I'd have to face my story, be it bad or good.
And though I never wore his clothes, I've tried to fill his shoes,
'Cause he made me want to be a poet too.

Well he spoke of love and soldiers and the reasons why we lose.
The things that bring us happiness are things that we must choose.
He left the answers lying in the early morning rain,
And the likes of that young stranger will not be seen again.

Now I'm a lonely poet just like he was before.
My shadow's lean and hungry lying on the parlor floor.
And I wonder if he knows the seed his wisdom left behind,
Growing like a flower in the shadows of my mind.

AENGUS FINNAN
Lightfoot

On the road that lies before us, from sea to shining sea
There’s a voice in the distance that beckons “follow me”

And it’s there within the forest, and beneath the silver moon
And it whistles in the wires with the memory of a tune

Well you tread this country Lightfoot, and you took a mighty stand
When you saw in her a beauty and you held her rugged hand

From her shield and her shoreline, you gathered in rhyme
Tender words that told her story, they linger yet in time

Ever will this land remember
Ever will your name be strong
Ever will the true north ring
With the glory of your song

Through the wide and rolling prairies, to the lights of Massey Hall
You sang about a people, dreamers one and all

And you climbed the highest mountains, felt the early morning rain
You traveled to the southland, but came back home again

Ever will this land remember
Ever will your name be strong
Ever will the true north ring
With the glory of your song

Long gone, the Riverboat and Yorkville Days
Long gone, the lines the navies laid
Long gone, lovers and the carefree highway
Still here are the tracks you made

Ever will this land remember
Ever will your name be strong
Ever will the true north ring
With the glory of your song
Ever will Canada
Sing the glory of your song

Oh do keep up Jimbo
I did give you not one but two links to Ray's lyrics document viz:-
"Yahoo fan club group Ray Murray his lyrics only are at:-
http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/kJ9qR11...tfootin%27.doc (http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/kJ9qR11IdJwDuloe4AUkiX1ASLxC_kpYWPf-fz0D_gCYG4kZkPl5ZAjtORKN-lY8so7awVRA5KBCjRlTR-WxrYIs0fLmr1vN/Lightfootin%27.doc)
or use
http://lightfootin.notlong.com"
actually due to the fact that Ray seems in the recent past to have deleted the file from "fanclub" Group neither link will now work
So now that I am delighted that Ray is posting here (love your member name Ray) perhaps he will post his lyrics here??

LIGHTFOOTIN'--Ray Murray

Now here's to you, you ol' son-of-a-gun
You taught me how to play when I was so young
From the Early Morning Rain, to Sundown's last refrain
I played all night long with ol' Lightfoot
So I bought your records, and I bought your books
I put the records on and I opened up them books
I turned the turn-table on
when I wrapped my guitar around me and I played along

Chorus:

So don't leave me here to play for myselve
I really get bored just doin' that stuff
Come'on Gord, You Are What I Am
I'm Alberta Bound on a Summer Breeze
Daylight Katy humming in my ear
Hope to play this for you next year

2nd Verse

So here's to thirty-odd years playing with you
Here's to All The Lovely Ladies you taught too
Here's to Somewhere USA, Just Looking At The Rain
Don't for get Cotton Jenny on your way back home

Repeat Chorus:

Jesse Joe

I have a poorly recorded demo of Lightfootin' which I'm reluctant to share over the internet. I'm hoping to re-record it for an on-going cd project of original songs from fans of Guy Clark entitled We Ain't Going Nowhere/Songs Of Those Who Can't Quit Their Day Jobs-Volume 3
I'll burn you a copy as soon as I record it to my expectations,
Ray
