Whiile the title may be appropriate the lyrics to Boss Man depict a tyrant and an employee who hates him and his job..
hmm..
I may be wrong..
this verse from Drink Yer Glasses Empty grabbed me:
I'd like to take things one at a time
Forget about reason, forget about rhyme
Because beg, steal, or borrow you got another hill to climb
So drink yer glasses empty now, it's time to hit the road
There's one less cause in the world to be leavin' for
Drink yer glasses girls and boys, it's time to hit the sky
To the tune of thunder, there's no time to wonder why
and perhaps as another small town Orillia boy, Barry at times felt some of these feelings as possible retirement fromt he business was around the corner after many long years:
Hi'Way Songs (Old Dan's Records)
When I walk the hill so high
Around the town where I was born
New York seems so far away
Though I was there just yesterday
I have played on my guitar
In coffeehouses, hall, and bars
Everyone that I call friend
Knows they will not be forgot
Trains and planes and rented cars
Singers, saints, and other starts
I suspect them every one
They'll never change
It's too much fun
Just for now I'd like to rest
In the shade of a maple tree
To the blue Canadian sky
I'll say a prayer for the world out there
When I stand on my own sod
It feels so good to be home, by God
The winter wind has turned my head
But I always came up warm somehow
Bottles, beads, and cigarettes
And lovers that I ain't found yet
Pickin' with a friend till dawn
And singing all of those hi'way songs
Just for now I'd like to rest
In the shade of a maple tree
To the blue Canadian sky
I'll say a prayer for the world out there
When I walk the hill so high
Around the town where I was born
New York seems so far away
Though I was there just yesterday
I would travel all my life
If loneliness was not the price
While headin' north across that line's
The only time I'm flyin'
I like Hi'way Songs. I have no idea if Mr. Harvey played the guitar or not, but since I've learned from these posts that he was a Heavy Rock fan, I imagine he at least knew his way around an 'air guitar'.

Boss Man would have been a fitting title. But the phrases don't fit. That was my first thought too.

Thanks for this thread Brink, I really thought of many Lightfoot songs, even scrolled down the list on Val's Site, reading all those lyrics. And you know it is very difficult to choose one. So I will go with, Hi'Way Songs
(http://www.gordonlightfoot.com/Lyrics/HiWaySongs.txt):)

I was thinking Restless too since Gord sang it at the memorial service. Maybe we should wait a couple days and see who wants Restless and who wants Hi'way Songs.

that's ok with me. I had already thought of 'Restless' and then when Gord sang it, it kinda endorsed my thoughts.
I originally thought CHar's suggestion of Hi'Way Songs was excellent, but if 'Restless' was good enough for Lightfoot, it's good enough for me.
I vote for 'Restless'.

I did tell Gordon that his choice of RESTLESS was excellent and the rendition was beautiful and very fitting for Barry - and that I had thought Hi-Way Songs wold be good too.. he smiled and said thanks..
perhaps since he hasn't done HiWay Songs for years and still does Restless it was chosen partly for his ability to perform it well..
All I know is that while he stood there with his guitar and sang for Barry it was a few moments in my life as Lightfoot fan that transcended every other Lightfoot performance I'd ever attended..

Hey whatever you choose Brink!
Since Lightfoot did it at the memorial, then Restless
(http://www.gordonlightfoot.com/Lyrics/Restless.txt)is good enough for me as well. :)

My only two video choices at the moment are my top two favorites, "My Love For You" and "End Of All Time". ;)
