Just a short post in remembrance of all soldiers from any land who fought and died for democracy and freedom. Regardless of how you feel about past or current conflicts, we should be thankful that we live in countries under governments where we don’t have to fear interment camps, execution squads or suicide bombers. Far too many soldiers, perhaps as young as your own children, made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we currently enjoy. Whether you recognize November 11th as Remembrance day, Veteran’s Day or Armistice day, one day a year is far to short to show our appreciation for such a precious gift won by their sacrifice.

God's Busy - If you don't know GOD, don't make stupid remarks!!!!!!!

A United States Marine was attending some college courses between assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. One of the courses had a professor who was an avowed atheist and a member of the ACLU. One day the professor shocked the class when he came in He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, "God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform, I'll give you exactly 15 minutes." The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am God, I'm still waiting." It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him; knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold. The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were shocked and stunned and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, "What in the world is the matter with you?" "Why did you do that?" The Marine calmly replied, "God was too busy today protecting America 's soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff and act like an idiot, So, He sent me."

Very well said Yuri !

On Hockey Night In Canada, last evening they did a great honor for November 11th, at The Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Playing "Maple Leafs Forever", on the bag pipes. Then one soldier sang both National Anthems. Many people on centre ice, including the newest members who will be inducted to the hockey hall of fame.{ Darryl Sittler, Lanny Macdonald, Pierre Pilote, Marc Messier,} and others that I can't remember right now. But it was an old retired soldier in a wheelchair on centre ice who was often on the screen that to me, stole the evening. Very moving ceremony.

And Don Cherry ended his Coaches Corner with a Salute to the Canadian fallens, as he mentions them so many times.

Despite everything The Leafs lost in a shootout...

Well said, Yuri! We should never forget the debt we owe those who died for us - or how they died.
The red poppies are everywhere today and I am wearing mine with a lot of pride.

It's important to note that Veteran's Day is to recognize and honor all war Vets who are still among us...as well as those who are now deceased. Memorial Day is when we do so for those who have died while serving our country.

To all U.S. and War Veteran's of other Countries who are here on Corfid, I honor you for your sacrifice and service.

Since we don't have any poppies here, Bru has kindly written that she is sending me some for next year.....she is a true friend and I appreciate it. Today is also my Father's birthday, he also was a vet (Guadalcanal).......we must honor our vets everyday not just once a year. Whatever our stance on the war, our soldiers are deserving of all our respect.

Messier, Stevens, Francis, McInnis are this years new faces for the HOF. Sittler and MacDonald were inducted several years ago.. ;)

The Leafs organization/NHL is very good about observing Nov.11 and Don Cherry is very passionate about our vets and those serving now..he can be a pain in the arse but he's a softie for certain things..

and I HATE shootouts in a team sport..It turns the whole thing into a skills competition - why play the first 60 minutes?
sheesh..

Brian informs me that he ran into Sittler and MacDonald before the game..darn! LOVE those guys!
but Lisa and I had fun at the Paul Brandt show..

Hey Brink - I've got lots of poppies..I'm always buying them even tho I wear the same one with a flag pin every year!..
lol

Bless all the military personnel-past and present, and thank you.
..we will remember..

Yes indeed Charlene, I couldn't remember them all, but knew Sittler was already in. My mistake. :)

Darryl Sittler is a fav to many Maple Leaf fans. Down here it is quite obvious. A guy I know named his first born, Darryl some 20 + years ago. And his licence plate reads SITTLER. :)

I like Don Cherry, he says it like it is. Dont alway's agree w/ him but he's pretty honest.

We have a Don Cherry's here in Dieppe {Moncton} NB. And he drops by once in a while...

Some years ago he was at the restaurant, and the media were asking him questions. One guy asked if he could imitate Ron Maclean, which he replied, " No I can't, because I dont look like a nerd."

Many Canadians would really want him as Prime Minister...

Well I don't drive so I can't get a license plate but 23 1/2 years ago I named my son after Darryl Sittler..
caused a bit of blushing for Mr. Sittler when I introduced him to my son about 15 years ago...

I appreciate what the men & women like that man have done for us, the things that they have secured for us by making the sacrifices that they have so that we don't have to. Without them, God only knows where we'd be today.
