For a short while earlier the UK edition of Google news carried a most unusual story:-
"When two great fertility symbols collide"
with a picture of Homer Simpson...holding a ring donut as if he's about to launch it at the the phallic Cerne Abbas giant which has appeared on the hillside in Dorset, England
One newspaper article linked by Google was at:-
http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/this_britain/article2776167.ece
the caption from picture shown on that webpage (it is a smaller version of this one on a Guardian blog page)
http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-images/Arts/Arts_/Pictures/2007/07/17/chalkhomer460.jpg
is "A giant image of Homer Simpson now stands next to the 17th-century giant which is carved in the hillside above Cerne Abbas, Dorset"
The Guardian says on:-
http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/film/2007/07/homer_erectus.html
"Homer erectus
It's Homer Simpson next to the Cerne Abbas chalk giant. Your captions please."
scroll down to read a slew of comments and suggestions some lewd some funny (my apologies for introducing a quasi-religious topic)
This seems to be a growing UK advertising trend. In Surrey on the approach to Gatwick Airport another enterprising publicity outfit
Flightpath Media has painted a huge lap dancer in a private paddock that is only visible from the air to draw attention to http://www.myprivatedance.com.
