But speaking as a former two pack a day addict who has not even touched a cigarette for over 7 years.I know only too well how difficult it is to give up the crutch.I fondly hoped that as in my case an extended hospital visit off fags would help break Gord's habit but no,
However before we condemn him, in his case although he has several times been heard to say he should give up there is no doubt a reason for his continuing, be it nerves or whatever today's logical justification might be.

Not at all sure what this one is all about but it does mention packet loss after all

Actually Internet Traffic Statistics animated ...
on a quite interesting old blog page at:-

where the blog says
"We scream bloody murder when our web site or net access goes down for a few minutes. The gif animation above, compiled by
a group at Stanford University, shows the monthly averages of network performance by country for the year 2000. The higher
the spikes, the lower the connection quality. We really have it good in the U.S. compared to neighboring countries. The full map is even more telling"
and also displayed is this

This is an enlargement of the 1" square barcode called the Maxicode (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MaxiCode)
that's been on UPS shipping labels since the mid '90s
IMHO fascinating stuff

I'm happy to say that I have never ever smoked a cigarette/cigar/joint or anything involving puting junk into my lungs in my life! :)

I grew up in a household of smokers:

My Mother
my Dad
my Grandmother
my two brothers (one quit in '89)
My uncles & aunts (all gone now).
The many visitors of my parents & Grandmother.

So,needless to say,I had no way (except going outside when possible) to escape being around smoke growing up. I find it amazing that I have no breathing problems or anything else associated with smoking.

My father smoked starting at age 11 when another boy offered him one.
1 to packs a day later on and he basically never stopped until far too late.
By 2000,his lungs were almost non-existant,his wind pipe was slowly shutting down and on Aug. 17 of that year he was gone just 43 days before his 62nd birthday.

I may be a touch oveweight but that's somewhat better than smoking, being a heavy drinker or drug abuser. In fact,I didn't have any alcohol until Oct. 1996. I only drink white wine and on special occaision only.

Thanks T.T. ,yes it was. In fact my father is the only "non-living" person I have ever seen up close. Such a helpless feeling knowing there was nothing that could be done for him and to just watch him slowly fade away.
I'm not trying to be dramatic,I use certain terms because the actual ones will make me too sad.

My brother and I did go out to the restin place last Friday to pay long overdue respects. Our lives make it hard to go out there sometimes.

I think I want to stop talking about this now.

A lot of people in my family are smokers, but I have never once been tempted to take up the habbit myself, or any other bad habbits (chewin tobacco, weed, etc.)

I do like to drink a lot of coffee, and if I don't have at least one cup a day, I get a headache and start getting fatigued, but I don't think it's bad to be somewhat addicted to caffine.

As long as you don't over-indulge in the caffine "Deal". Otherwise if you did, you'd end up with a major malfunction of both your kidneys, urinary tract & bowel.

interesting, sorry to hear sad words, for whatever reason I have been trying to quit for a few months. It sucks the only thing in this world that has me by the throat, litterally. I stopped for years and was walking through a bistro in Fla. and saw a friend of mine outside having a smoke I said"Can I have one of those?" and bam I stopped on the way home and bought a pack. I appreciate all of you opening up I think it is just the right kick in the pants for me. Stay happy and healthy and send some thoughts out for all of us that at least recognize we have an issue.

And B-Stone, I only drink a few cups a day; no 'pills' or anything like that... :)
