For what it's worth....I've had no problems viewing any of the pics.

They certainly work well with the images I had conjured up when I first heard "The Wreck".

It seems to be a web browser problem. Internet Exploder shows the pics just fine, so the problem was with Firefox.

I'm not one to normally get seasick, but that was scary!

As far as pictures not appearing it is another nail in the coffin of firefaux as far as I am
concerned following the recent exposure by RMD of its silly prediliction to cock up long
URLs.For my part I fail to see what is so very wrong with Internet Exploder anyway.
Where did you find the pix ???
You did say you came across them "online" i.e. they were on the internet already so you could have simply used their original URLs instead of having to save them then
upload to imageshack (http://=http://www.imageshack.us).
I just did a google image search for the MV Selkirk Settler.
and discovered just one picture on:-

Also somewhat surprisingly her propulsion is just

Well, Sir John, to clearify just a bit. I should have said that I recieved the images ala email initially. Then, being a bit of a skeptic, I googled the name of the ship and the shipping line as originally worded in the email "Misener Steamships MV Selkirk Settler". As you well know, facts and figures tend to get blurred in cyberspace!!!

Anyhow, I found enough that I felt reasonably confident to post the images. Of course my picture posting prowess I can only attribute to you! I did, after posting, notice the images coming up rather slow, and the fifth image would'nt come up at all. So I re-hosted and re-posted. Incidently, I use a Mac OS-X with Safari browser.... (most of the time).

The picture sequence is fun/interesting in that it give one a definite sense of what it must be like at the time of "the Wreck".

I use both Firefox and IE, as they both have their benefits. FF has great add-ons and extensions, yet IE is more consistent with loading certain webpages properly. Both are of great benefit to me as I have low vision and generally require odd settings on my browsers, so I use both effectively.
It's like the old and very silly mac vs pc argument. Both do the job, so use what's best for you!

My browser of choice is Firefox, and I had no problems with the pictures in this thread. My preference is admittedly a little bit of bias against Microsoft due to their insistence on defying norms. Who else could confuse the usage of forward and backward slashes ?

I do have problems when encountering REALLY long URLs (the entire thread is reformatted, requiring a tedious left to right scrolling). If you know of a setting that I could change on Firefox, fill me in.

Those rough seas pictures were taken on February 13, 1987 by the then second mate, George Ianiev.
The ship was in the North Atlantic, not Lake Superior, and was eastward bound for the Ghent, Belgium from Tampa Bay.

my apologies for the apparent mis information above, but as stated by yours truly earlier on, things tend to get blurred and skewed in cyberspace!

I did check around before posting these pictures and found nothing negating my info.....

There is still the possiblity the this links info is incorrect or incomplete...

Bottom line is you have to take it all with a grain of salt, eh?
