View Full Version : Amenities
I stumbled upon this site and found it rather entertaining. I have no idea if they are the real deal or not, but perusing was fun.
And the next question is : Does anyone know what Lightfoot's requirements are ?
Here's the link to the site

No idea but probably not much. I suspect he's more interested in the equipment onstage (mics, lights etc) than the amenities backstage. My guess? Bottled water, fresh fruit.

Someone mention a while back, that Gord didn't ask for much. An apple, and bottled water. I how ever, dont know if this is true or not.

Backstage where he does meet and greets probably has different things than where he gets dressed and ready for the show..
I think I recall cookies and bottled water at Massey...in Hamilton there were veggie trays, drinks, small nibblies if I remember correctly-that was in a room for meet and greet tho - not his and the bands private space..
They came in after going to their room/rooms. Lightfoot usually changes his wardrobe and then comes to meet the folks..

Quite a contrast to Jimmy Buffett (or is it Buffet?)--The Smoking Gun lists 13 pages of requirements, most of them for food, water and booze, all in minute detail.

I do believe that meals/drinks are catered prior to the shows - possibly as per specifications laid out for each band member and there may be things afterwards at the hotel where they are staying. I bet there is a list of requirements but it is nothing extraordinary or extravagant like some artists demand.
Jimmy Buffett has a huge number of people so there are a lot of diverse requirements. A Lightfoot tour has less than 20 people probably.
Leaving all of it up to the venue would be crazy!
At least people don't have to count smarties and remove the blue ones - one artist has this in her demands. Can't remember who tho...sheesh....
or provide black athletic socks and postcards with stamps for sheryl crow...good grief...

Accoring to the Daily Mail, blue smarties aren't natural enough. Could it be our artist in question has health concerns?
-----
For those who are fond of blue Smarties, it is a minor disaster. But for health campaigners it is a major triumph.
Nestlé Rowntree is to stop producing the blue version of the chocolate beans because it is removing all artificial colours from the casings and there is no natural alternative to the blue chemical currently used.
It will be replaced with a white Smartie, at least until a natural blue dye is found.
Although Nestlé says it is responding to calls from consumers for more natural ingredients, it has faced heavy lobbying from campaigners worried about the effects of the chemicals on children's health.
The colours being axed include Brilliant Blue (E133); Quinoline Yellow (E104); Sunset Yellow (E110); Ponceau 4R (E124); and Carmoisine (E122).
A recent study by experts at Liverpool University identified a possible harmful cocktail effect on the nervous system of artificial colours and chemicals.
Two of the colours examined were Brilliant Blue and Quinoline Yellow, which like many others was originally derived from coal tar.
Concerns about Brilliant Blue also include a link to hyperactivity and skin rashes. It is even listed as cancer risk by US Environment Protection Agency. Similar health concerns surround the other artificial colours which are being withdrawn. The move by Smarties is part of a major shift by the entire industry.
The Co-op and Marks & Spencer have already removed artificial colours and additives from own-label products.
Dr Lizzie Vann, of the Organix company, said: "I applaud Nestlé for doing this. It is great news for children's health. We would now like to see the Government follow suit and announce a legal ban."
The blue Smartie was introduced in 1989, replacing the light-brown variety. Nestlé said the latest change, which comes into effect next month, is part of a long-term drive to 'improve the nutritional qualities' of its products.
It has already removed artificial colouring from Fruit Gums, Jelly Tots and Fruit Pastilles.

thanks for the morning chuckle David!
oh good grief.....and stuffing kids with 64 oz. of pop and super sized everything is okay.....as long as nothing is blue!
glad to know the EPA is on top of the blue dye dilemma.
how about the kid eating non-blue smarties near or in a field that has just been sprayed with pesticide/herbicide?
lol
oh my....a kid would have to probably eat 10,000 blue smarties a day for 10 years before any problems related to the blue dye showed up....however he would be incredibly obese...but that's ok. i suppose....
my goodness things are out of whack...
but i'm glad smarties are nutritional otherwise...they're one of my favourite choco treats!
sheesh....

My father was deathly allergic to blue dyes in food. His tongue, lips and throat would swell up, and possibly block his air passages. He had to carry around an antihistimine shot at all times.
He was allergic to a lot of everyday things... maple leaves, fresh cut grass, beer, chocolate, fiddle heads, spinach... the list goes on and on.

My hairdresser was having a hard time with odd reactions to basic anti-inflammatories (Motrin etc.) Turned out it wasn't the active ingredients she was allergic to, but the fillers. Most things are safe for most people but for those who have severe reactions, the least companies can do is clearly label the ingredients so they can avoid the problem items.
My son is allergic to tree nuts (walnuts, pecans, filberts or hazelnuts, Brazil nuts etc.) We learned this the hard way when he heaved up maple walnut ice cream all over the carpet when he was about 7. He's a 4+ on the allergy tests.
Last Christmas, and just because he'd never tried one, he ate one filbert to see if he liked it. Good thing I was home with him at the time because he reacted immediately. I got benadryl into him and had my hand on the phone to call 911. Fortunately his throat didn't close up but he noticed some trouble breathing freely, got immediate nausea and stomach pain and broke out in hives. He recovered after a few hours and I didn't have to call emergency services. Peanuts, as ground nuts, don't bother him, nor do sunflower or pumpkins seeds. Still, I read labels and make sure he does, especially now that he's on his own.

I'm allergic to wasp stings. I got stung about 8 years ago, while painting under the eaves of my Limestone house, and had to be rushed to the emergency room because I couldn't breath. It was terrifying!

I had allergies to milk and milk products that began when I was 15....hives and throat closing up...no fun at all for someone who loved ice cream, cream cheese, and CHOCOLATE!!!!!
I have outgrown those allergies however as my allergist thought I might...after I had my kids...and now I have to share my CHOCOLATE!
lol
but Cathy - allergies to FIDDLEHEADS!!! oh that's awful! I LOVES my fiddleheads!
lol
My cousin found out about her allergies to bee stings AFTER she got stung on a golf course...
I'm also allergic to penicillin and codeine...I was allergic to milk because they are given to cows...I'm probably not allergic any more tho...should get a test to make sure.
I'm allergic to Rap Music!!!!
Yuri
Perhaps someone can verify this. Speaking about Smarties, I heard that the band 'Van Halen' requested that the venue provide them with a number of items back stage and on stage. One item caught my attention as it was a bowl full of Smarties with a particular colour removed. How arrogant I thought until I heard that this request was made in order to verify that all other requests had been fulfilled. By checking the bowl of Smarties, if a particular colour was indeed missing, then they knew that all other requests were probably fulfilled. After all, someone who would honour the tedious task of removing a particular Smartie would no doubt take care of other simpler yet more important tasks. Clever, I thought!

I'm allergic to penicillin and codeine, too. I don't know about milk, though. I never liked it, so I rarely drank it.

Now, I'm not allergic to penicillin (had some today for dental work, as it happens) but both of my kids are allergic to it. My husband can take it, no problem, but it doesn't work for him. And I'm now lactose intolerant <sob> but I manage to sneak dairy into my diet in small doses. Lactaid tablets don't work for me.
