It is the tulip festival here in Ottawa and Murray Mclauchlan performed Sunday afternoon. I have always enjoyed his songs and like many of Lightfoots songs I find the the songs like, Do you Dream of Being Someone, Childs Song, Farmers Song and Down by the Henry Moore to be timeless and great songs. They sounded as good on Sunday in the rain as the did almost 30 years ago when Murray would sell out Massey Hall. I went to the concert in the rain and I am glad I did. Anyone out there listen to Murray.

Love Murray - saw him years (decades) ago when Farmers Song was just out. It was a concert in High Park in Toronto - geeze that was a LONG time ago....I was a wee slip of a girl.....lol
Last July at Mariposa it was wonderful to see him perform LIVE again. All of those great songs and his humour about them and his life were nostalgia to the max...
sorry about the rain but when the music's good it really doesn't matter.
Who is going to be on the Hill on July 1st?
One day I'll make it to see the Tulip Festival....got pics???
listen to some Murray magic:

I would highly recommend people take in a concert from M. Mclaughlan. I have saw him a few times once at the University of Guelph in around 1977 and alos at Expo 86. He said he gave up playing for a while but returned playing after a medical emergency. The emergency he said teached him to do the things he loves and one is playing music and performing.
I am kicking myself for not taking my camera since I stood right in front of the stage. It was note great weather so I almost stayed away. There was a nice article and picture in the Ottawa Sun that said the music gets better with time.
In terms of July 1st I do not think the program has been announced. There is also a pretty good folk festival each summer in Ottawa

Count me in as another Murray fan. I've been listening to him since the mid-70s and I agree that many of his songs are timeless.

By the way, his concerts are great. He has a wonderfully dry sense of humour and some of the stories he tells between songs are as priceless as the songs themselves.

I also had the pleasure of meeting him once, maybe 1981/2, and the brief conversation and handshake left me with a very high impression.

Murray McLauchlan is a great friend to Lightfoot, I saw him in concert in the 70's. Puts on a good show. Not much for talking to his audience, at least not at that concert 31 years ago. Glad to hear he's still kickin.

He was at Hugh's Room in Toronto last year. Didn't have the time to attend, but I have a copy of the gig and the between song stories were detailed and well worth listening to.

I've always enjoyed his music, and like Gord, he just gets better with age.

Actually Murray talks a lot now at concets with a story for each song. He also talked about playing the Riverboat and other places. I am sure his path crossed a lot with Lightfoots. He is however about decade younger
