Phyllis Gretzky dies at 64

Seeing as I am from the same hometown as Wayne Gretzky, thought I would mention that after a long battle with lung cancer, his mother Phyllis died last night at the Brantford General Hospital. She was 64.

The Gretzky family is to Brantford, what the Lightfoot family is to Orillia.

The funeral will be held at Grace Anglican Church which is just up the block from me.

A very sad day. she was a young woman of only 64 who dedicated her life to her family and always kept out of the spotlight. it's always been clear that Wayne was a family loving guy and it came from two parents who instilled in him the importance of home and family and dedication.
While dad Walter loves the public life and was out making rinks for Wayne and the other kids to skate on it was mum at home holding it all together..She will be missed. Wayne adored his mum and his late grandmother...a tough time of year to go through this....
