I have acquired another pet. Usually with animals a name presents itself in the first day or two and that's it. I've had this little girl a week now and I haven't a clue what to call her.

She's a young wild female house finch. A friend found her hoping down a road. At some point she broke a wing and the wing mended badly and she can't fly. She survived in the wild long enough for the wing to heal. In short she's a determined individual who wants to live. We know she's female. She's rather plain looking as most female birds are. She's got lots of nervous energy. Cats don't scare her. And she very rarely chirps. Hey You is getting kinda old.

I've been scouring my brain but I can't think of a thing. Since y'all were so good at naming the house, wanna name a bird, LOL?

Harmony?

Yes, Harmony. Great suggestion.

Strong-willed, determined, and a survivor. Just like Gord. And just like the Harmony in his song.

Well done, Sheryl!

LOL! No problem! It just seemed the likely choice -- a songbird... Harmony!!

Only problem is I've never heard her sing. A couple chirps is all I've heard. But maybe that's the point, given the lyrics.

Honestly, my first thought right after I hit the add reply button was "Oh no, some smart ass would suggest Lyle." But since she's neither male nor a canary, perhaps we've avoided that possibility.

If you want to make a point, you need a better sharpener.

And if you're trying to be funny, you need a better joke.

Snackie? Cheetos? Crackers? Nah, I don't think I could saddle the poor bird with that.

On the up side, bringing home the bird may have finally made it up to the cats for the moment four years ago when I brought the dog home.

You don't seriously have a chipmunk?

There is a woman who lives up the street from me who has a 14 year old Shepherd mix. She had 8 cats when she got the dog as a puppy. She said it just made sense to name him Dog. Sometimes the most obvious is the best.

The chipmunks around here are too timid to come that close as a rule. That has just got to be a thrill for the cats though.

Injecting something nasty into a genial little thread like a call for suggestions for a possible birdie name ???.... <point>, to be blunt it would be more appropriate if you called yourself <pointless>
The (dubiously qualified) Dr Steve diagnoses <point> has a big A.S.S.(Aggression Surplus Syndrome) thing happening.

A cure fo your condition ? Why not take a hike....

Very good Steve! Possibly you could include Patti in that diagnosis?

Tag-along? Jenny Lind? Cotton Jenny? Silver Heels?

Hey, folks, this is "small talk" after all. If we want to talk naming a bird or anything else non-Lightfoot, this is the place. If you're not interested in the topic, don't bother posting.

Tag Along? I like that. :D That's a cool name. I would never have thought of that.

And for Patti and company, why would a teenage boy take on the name of a girl. That is just sick. Does your father know you post like a girl?

See, Steve? I told ya so... and this <point> is another incarnation of Douglas, I'd bet my bottom dollar. Sorry to ruin your lovely post, Violet. My second-to-bottom dollar is that Patti is Douglas, as well.

No apologies needed. He's bound to grow up some day. Course at the rate the male of the species matures you and I may be dead by the time it finally happens.

So,Violet....have you made a choice? Just curious to the pointr of being serious because you are being mysterious! :D

Yep, and it's not a Lightfoot name. I tried, it just wasn't working. A friend suggested scrappy because she's so tough. I looked up scrappy which led to feisty which led me to fidgets.

Long story, but her name is Fidget. It fits her. She loves to pace and flap her wings. Because of her young age, we're kind of guessing she broke her wing falling out of the nest. She managed to hop around on the ground and stay alive long enough for the broken bone to mend, but it didn't mend right. There's no way to knock a bird out to work on it, so the wing would have to be rebroken while she was conscious and even then, the odds of being able to reset it so that she can fly are extremely small.

The rehabers would have just put her to sleep because she couldn't be rehabilitated, so I took her in. At the very least the cats are pleased:)
