Debuting at #32 on the Billboard pop charts this week is the Melissa Etheridge & Joss Stone tribute from last months Grammy Awards Show! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

It's great to see a Janis Joplin classic like "Cry Baby" finally become the hit it should have always been and also to see "Piece Of My Heart" done by a female artist of nearly equal voice caliber!

Stone's "Baby" was okay, but Melissa (for her half) truly tore it up that night and truly blew me away with her near perfect Joplin vocal. (It was almost like she channeled Janis!) http://www.corfid.com/ubb/eek.gif

Also, just glad to see M. Etheridge back in the top 40 after 8-9 years. I always thought the hits ended a bit too soon. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif

Been me! Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

Hey Borderstone....this is late, but noticed your post and had to more than agree about Melissa Ethridge....(tell me what female artist can top her, honestly) Every time I see her, I'm amazed, in awe...etc. I'm also a big Bonnie Raitt fan also...but Melissa is probably my altime favorite female artist, and her guitar abilities can put some very famous people out there to shame!

Thanks Linda! :) I was starting to think no one cared! :( *sniff*

I agree, she's great,I remember her back when she had that wigged out black hair in '88! tongue.gif Glad she changed that! I even have her pre-star single,"2001". (Released in 1992). If any female artist is R & R hall Of Fame bound,it's her!

Here's to Pearl:

Good to hear some voices do justice to Pearl.

The only covers I've ever heard were limp - especially the country thing of Faith Hill on Piece of My Heart.

Pearl's impossible to top. Not just the music, but the whole package - including dying. Like Elvis.

But those two ladies did the best belting I've heard in a long time. I do believe Pearl would have smiled. I know I did.

Somebody Bring Me Some Water! I was hooked on Miss Ethridge - and now Miss Stone, too. There are some fine blues ladies who could do it right, their just not mainstream.

Then again, wouldn't mind hearing Etta James lay into any of those signature tunes.

If you'd like to hear a tribute to Pearl, not a re-creation, listen to Chelsea Hotel #2 by Leonard Cohen - Leonard's original version.

Gord's take on Bobby McGee predated Pearls. Roger Miller, too. Even Kris Kristofferson's original - all are great.

I'm glad to see that duet debut. Higher and higher would be very very fine.

Here's to Girls w/ Guitars, too!

Awwwww Borderstone....Chin up my boy! lol!

You are on the mark about Melissa being more than worthy to be in the R&R Hall of Fame.

I watched her on Much Music (or one of those kind of shows) one night with only her and her guitar....and people couldn't contain themselves before she finished a song, they were cheering long before the song was over..I guess thats what they mean by RAW talent..backup is strictly an option for her, she doesn't need it...and another day I was watching her on a talk show...AMAZING of course...I hope she gets well soon. After I watched her on MUCH, I had to watch how often I talked about that show..every time music was mentioned...I went on and on about her! lol!

Hope things are well with you!
