I think that this is disgusting, at least showing any sort of violence to children. But, I am against any sort of cruelty to animals, being gifted with cats, and not having any chidren. Just like racism, this should be taught at an early, impressionable age, but NOT showing graphic depictions of unspeakable acts toward animals, OR humans!
While the underlying thought of protecting animal rights is, in my opinion, a good one, it's HOW you illustrate that thought to children that can be BAD!!!
Whew!

I've detested PETA for quite some time. They're more interested in craming a vegan/all animals should be free philosophy down people's throats at any cost than protecting animals.

There is a petition somewhere on that site urging the revoking of PETA's non profit status based on some of their activities.

I know that a very, very small amount of the money given to them actually goes to protecting animals. I think they take things too far. I can't handle to see any animal suffer but you know what, I can't stand to see people suffer either. By God if they can find a cure for cancer by hooking up a bunny to jumper cables, all I have to say is red is positive and black is negative. No, I could not handle doing experiments on animals but thank God there's people who can. What's funny is that those who protest surely want drugs when they fall ill.

The whole vegan thing is fine if that's what certain people want and it has it's positives, but I like to eat meat and that is why I have two canine's in my mouth. They are for ripping into flesh and without them, I would have a tough time eating my rare, 3" steak. I don't tell people what they should or shouldn't eat and I certainly don't want people telling me, much less frightening children and brainwashing them because their parents eat meat. I would like to see what these people's shoes are made out of. Or purses, wallets, watch bands etc.

I saw an interview with the head honcho of their "non-profit" organization about some of those sick cartoons they show kids about eating meat etc. and can't see how they can justify this. Takes all kinds I guess.

Which yet again brings up poor Lyle. I'm sure he would have prefered that you be vegan.

My GF and I are always at loggerheads when it comes to meals... she's a vegeterian I am not. She recently had to move back home and it's been hell for her because her parents are not vegetarians either. Might wanna think about that, I am not going through life without an occasional roast beef dinner on Sunday. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Ahhh, you traditionalist you. Will she at least consider cooking the animal flesh, even if she won't eat it? I've known couples to compromise that way.

That, er, ah, you could learn to roast a beef yourself Gord. Not only will you learn a valuable skill, but you might just convert her someday. Trust me, I was a vegetarian for about three years. They may not eat it, but that doesn't mean the smell doesn't get to 'em. There's something very primative about the smell of cooking meat, and no amount of pre-formed soy matter designed to look like chicken nuggests is gonna touch that.

The way Lyle tasted, I wished at that moment I practiced veganism. Lyle almost made me jump ship and switch to the other side. Gord on the otherhand didn't seem to mind and even looked like he was enjoying it.

I'm obviously against cruelty to any living thing...it's the sign of sick mind to be cruel for the sake of being cruel. I eat fish, very little red meat, not out of any sense that I shouldn't eat meat, I just feel better when I don't eat a lot of red meat.
PETA sucks. Always has.
PETA= People Eating Tasty Animals.
poor taste maybe, but my sense of humour...

I know how to cook roast beef dinners, I've had my dad here many times here as well as my friends plus one of my ex-girlfriends... I live alone so I do most of the cooking myself.

Yer right serving up a burger under the guise it is meat when in fact it nothing but highly pressed soy crap is a fraud to me lol. Don't get me wrong I eat the odd vegetable, I like my V8 juice etc etc but I didn't buy a freezer for nothing lol http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

HAHA PETA does suck! I'd probably live a lot longer if I cut my red meat consumption back and cutting out the smokes would help too. Nothing beats a rare steak followed with a few strong cups of coffee and cigarettes. Well, some things are better but for the sake of this conversation, nothing beats it.

When I was married I loved to cook. Now that I am single, I can't stand to cook anymore. Gord, my feezer has some of those things that you stick in a cooler to keep things cool, a little bag of ice and a box of baking soda. My fridge has some fresh veges, Vanilla Coke, Camels and ketchup. Oh yeah, there's also some pizza in there too. No roast beef and none of that tofu stuff.

Gord
09-02-2004, 09:47 PM
Oh hell, I have various cuts of meat in the freezer, plus some deer meat, fish, etc... I agree it's a drag cooking when yer single, but I suspect some of my current health problems are due to that very thing. I eat but not as well as when I was living at home or aptly put eating properly.

If I have somebody coming over it's one thing if not I just usually have a bologne sandwich for supper. Or I'll order in Chinese.

Yay, I made Watchman laugh. there's a first.

As a single woman, I can tell you, as brink can also, that we don't fare much better in the food/dinner department. I think last friday, it was chocolate milk for me (my sincere apologies to cows everywhere) and brink had cheetos and a squirt. I'm trying to get my 19 year old to cook, but no go. He's lazy. But there's a little chinese place about 200 ft away, I get it to go. That's a real meal, right?

I have a freezer full of meat, getting that nice white frost crap on it...

ps. isn't the baking soda supposed to be in the fridge, not the freezer?

Don't let it get like mine did awhile back. Yep, that about 14" of solid snow/ice on that shelf. The door wouldn't even close as the ice pushed it open.

Yikes! You've got life insurance right?

Let us know when and where the funeral is and I'm sure many will attend http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Those potatoe chips I had for lunch don't seem quite so bad now.

Well, I second or is it third the "cooking for one sucks" sentiment. However, I fortunately have a frost free freezer. Believe it or not I have things in it too. I freezer shop, so it's always full. Then there's the dogs supply of Frosty Paws. Goddess forbid we run out of Frosty Paws.

Yes I have life insurance but I think my funeral is a long way off. Coffee is good for you, so is the steak. The key is moderation. I eat more fruit and vegetables than most people and mainly drink water unless I am drinking coffee. My weight is spot on. Heck, I haven't eaten a single thing from a fast-food joint in 5 years. When I eat out I eat good food, low in fat. A good steak and veges is a healthy meal. I bet less calories than your potato chip lunch and defintely more nutritous. I will agree the coffee and smokes can be a little extreme at times. Smoking is the only hazard but I am working on quitting and have been for the last several months. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif From 2 packs to 1.5, still sometimes 2 but before too long, I will quit for good. A girl took my near full pack 2 nights ago with an incentive if I could make it to this Satuday without smoking, and the next day I fell off the wagon. Did it once for 4 years and then started again. Stupid and scary at the same time. When I drink coffee I want to smoke. There is no way I will willingly give up coffee though. My steak dinners have been drastically cut back since I no longer frequent the local Outback Steakhouse. I was seeing a girl that works there and and now I am afraid if I return I will get hit in the head with a bommerang.

Potato chips for lunch is really, really bad.

Hey, no one messes with my potatoe chips.

Never never EVER insinuate to a woman who is PMSing that potatoe chips, chocolate and Diet Coke is a bad lunch, OKAY!

Damn men responsible for the whole damn load of damn crap anyway.

Yeah whata you looking at pal huh? :-w

That's something I should have learned by now. Women can be downright vicious at times. Lightfoot knows it all too well that's why he wrote "Make No Mistake About It". Predators. The Diet Coke is okay though.

That pic of my freezer was from a long time ago. This was an upright freezer in my basement that just got out-of-control.

Well, the freezer pic gives me renewed resolve to clean mine out (yeah right, like that'll happen anytime soon...)

Gotta remember those lesson learned Watchman, and Violet shouldn't ever be messed whether she's PMSing or not. That should be readily apparent to everyone by now. lol

oh yeah, why are afraid of being hit in the head with a boomerang? Were you mean? hmmm?

you got a point there Al about coffee and cigrettes. i cant have a coffee without a puff and i drink a lot of coffee. the funny thing is you can have 2 cigarettes in the time it takes to drink one coffee!. a friend of my mine took my near-full packet once just "to see the label" and he tossed it in the bin to make me stop. i then remembered about the $5 i owed him... well, you can guess what i did with that!

and i like a big fat steak every now and then.

3 days ago I vowed to quit and tossed my pack into the trash can while I was filling up with gas. 1 hour later was back there fishing them out. Got some strange looks too. You don't even want to know how many packs I've tossed out the window while driving.

LSH, I wasn't mean at all. She had no goals and was going nowhere very fast. It has taken several waitresses to learn that it is the perfect, and only profession that allows a person to party all night and sleep all day. One of her friends asked me if I was going out with them one Friday and I told her no, I'm not talking to so and so anymore and I made a couple other comments that I am sure are boomerang worthy. Needless to say, I got a voice mail that night saying to meet her up there because she really wanted to see me. I never showed up, nor called her back. Done deal. Drop dead gorgeous girl, only 26 but had no goals. Couldn't tell the truth to save her life either. One thing I will not tolerate is a liar.

Remember my 3 questions that I ask to weed out the bad girls? If not, here they are. This is how I weeded her out, no joke. Only took 2 questions this time though.

She came over one night around 1 am because she wanted to watch a movie. Okay whatever. I throw in a DVD in and she sees this DVD on the shelf and all she could see of it was Murder. She asked what movie that was...

Girl: What movie is that that says murder?

Me: That's "Murder In Cowetta County" starring Johnny Cash and Andy Griffith. It's a true story.

Girl: Who's Johnny Cash?

Me: You don't know who Johnny Cash is? In my head I am thinking, strike one girl! A big strike at that.

Me: Do you know who Gordon Lightfoot is?

Girl: No.

Me: Strike two!! What, have you been living in a cave your whole life?

At this same time my best friend (my German Shepherd) came and put his big head in her lap. Not even a pat on the head from her! That was strike 3!!!

Needless to say, 2 weeks later I gave her the steel toe.

The old acid test eh.

I can relate. If he's a real good man, not only will he rub the dogs ears, he'll play keep away with a grungy drolled on squeekie ball. That's why all the first dates pick me up at my house. They can't handle the animals they ain't worth knowing and they'll be more trouble than they're worth. Plus, who's gonna mess with a woman who lives with a 75lb German Shepherd?

Don't mind me, I'm just waiting for the chicken wings and the pizza to be delivered. Beer anyone?

TheWatchman

I think it's one thing if someone is uneasy around animals or has just never been around them, but something entirely different when someone dislikes them. One time someone came over to my house and made a comment about my dog who was sleeping on the floor. I told him my dog lives here, not you. If you don't like it, leave. Seriously, I think one of the main reasons people dislike animals is because they are afraid of them. I can see being afraid of a large dog but disliking them is nuts. I think those people have some issues they need to deal with. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

I love animals, but I just can't handle having any right now. They are a serious responsibility as well as a joy, and it wouldn't be fair to the animal at this point. I have a cactus and a kid that I'm trying to finish raising, that's all the responsibility I can handle at this point. I miss having a dog though...

Gord
09-04-2004, 03:29 PM

LSH
09-04-2004, 03:39 PM
lol. my kid is nineteen. Last pet I had was a ferret, and the ex got him in the split.
I didn't "toss" any animal. I just know better than to take on the responsiblity of one at this time. I live in a small apartment.
I had my last dog for nine years, 6 years ago, and I'm still not really ready to replace him.
Like I said, living things are a responsibility, why take that on if you can't do it justice? Not good for the animal.

violet Blue Horse
09-04-2004, 07:53 PM
Yeah, I agree. I waited a long time to get to the place where I could have the dog and know I could give one a good life. The cats were easy, I could always find an apartment that would accept two cats and some goldfish, but try finding a place that allows 75lb dogs. I couldn't begin to take on the whole child thing. Dogs are easy, children are as tough as it gets.

kids get harder as they get older. sigh. I love him, but wow! stress, stress, stress. I go visit my girlfriend and her three cats for my pet fix. Not allowed to have pets here anyway. some people still do, one apartment does have a dog, and I don't think the poor thing gets out much except for potty breaks...bummer for the dog, it needs to run and play and do doggy things...

Yeah, I'll never understand that one either. I got the dog from a rescue. She's beautiful. With the exception of the tail, she's pretty close to AKC standard. But some fool didn't think before they bought her and wound up dumping her after two or three years because they said their backyard was too small. What they really meant was they didn't have the time. They never taught her what sit or down meant. She didn't know how to play ball when I got her. I could go on. It stuns me everytime I go to the rescue's site. I've seen beautiful German line, German bred dogs someone paid a fortune to import sitting in the rescue at 18 months. They had a 10 year old dog there once someone turned into a kill shelter because they said he was too old to play ball anymore and they wanted to adopt a puppy to replace him. I don't understand things like that. How can anyone live with an animal for any length of time and not love them? I don't understand people sometimes.
