If you watch this news channel,be on the lookout for a new person named Sean (pronounced seen) MacLaughlin.
I just found out on local Phoenix channel 12 news that Sean, our resident weatherman of about a decade or so,is heading for the network (to do the national weather if I heard it right.) I think they also said something about him doing the TODAY show. Keep your eyes pealed! Weird name, cool guy.

Of course you don't know him Duncan,he's still here in Phoenix on the channel 12 news! He's going to NY next week to join the NBC network. Please re-read my message. I don't think you quite understood it. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

I have returned to this very short post,to put an ending to this thread.

The above mentioned newscastr/meteorologist has actually left NBC and returned here to Phoenix last week to be the weatherman on channel 5 (CBS).

It's kind of a touching reason actually.

After not only working for the network but also covering major storms and hurricanes (Katrina most notably).... Sean (seen) realized he was away from his family far too often and missed many of his daughters' firsts and other big family moments.

So,he gave up the lucrative network position,to be just the local newsperson he was 2 years ago.

Same guy, different channel. I think that's avery unselfish person. :) Wish everyone was that way! ;)

I'm afraid I still don't know him. :(

:D

He does seem a very nice person though to give up a good job like that, but then again, the special family moments you miss, you cannot get back. :)

I've seen Sean (and the pronunciation drives me crazy - I always found myself talking back to the TV saying "It's pronounced "SHawn" but of course it's his name so he'll say it the way his parents did.) Nice fellow.

Annie, I totally agree. That has gotten on my nerves for so long. I asked my Mom, who was born and raised in Ireland, if she's ever heard Sean pronounced "seen", and she said no. He has to have gotten plenty of remarks about that through the years.

I've seen him doing the weather on the weekends, and he does seem like a nice guy. He just has an annoying name.

Hmmmm....why is Fading Away answering for DMD3,in not knowing who he is still??? :D Is Duncan hiding an alias?

Anyhow,Charlene's got the scoop w/wikpedia! ;)

His parents gave them both (essentially) the same name but w/ different spelling & pronouncement,to avoid confusion.

In a local interview on channel 5 with Anchorman Kent Dana (a local news legend who's been on vally TV since 1972/1973)
Sean stated that Irish people constantly get on him about that and he ends up explaining the whole thing again!

It is nice to have him back doing the weather,he was the least annoying! :D LOL!

I remember when my God-daughter Jamie first said her name back in Jan. '97 (2),it was sogreat because her mom & I had been trying for weeks to get her to say it. :D She'd either say "J" or "Me"! LOL!

I wouldn't have missedthat or her growing up for anything! :) She's 12 now...still trying to get my name right! :D :D LOL!

Now that you mention it, the name does sound familiar. I may have heard them say "And here's Sean Maclaughlin with the weather report" or something like that...
