I wont ask if you ever get Gordon Lightfoot songs stuck in your head because if you didn't,you wouldn't be a fan! :)

Putting aside,"Sundown","Wreck","IYCRMM" and "Carefree Highway" (we've all had those stuck in our head) what songs of his have recently played on the radio in your mind?

Right now,"End Of All Time" is playing in there but it's strange that it is. I haven't listened to "Harmony" in a coupl-a months! Maybe that means I should listen?

In the past few months,Sixteen Miles To Seven Lakes,"Wild Strawberries","Rainy Day People","Endless Wire" and "I'll Do Anything" have all had me singing along. ;)

Til next time,later!

The instrumental part of Sweet Guinevere is one of the things that gets in my head all the time. It sounds "cute" somehow.

I am always having "Only Love Would Know" in my head lately. That one is SO hard to get out of my head.

I think of some parts of "The Last Time I Saw Her" at least once a day.

I woke up this morning at about 5:30 (why I don't know) and Shellfish was what was in my head...still is at 8:30!
I listened to Harmony CD several times last night while surfing the net.

I get Endless Wire stuck in my head a lot as well, actually.

In fact, if I'm alone, I will quite often find myself singing "down in the dark of a beat out soul there's a few good second hand dreams...", if I'm just wanting to sing something.

Strange, right? :)

Well,it's Sunday and today's "head-bangers" :D ) are "Let It Ride" and "I Can See It In Your Eyes". At times they seem to gel together which can be a bit annoying, like my brain can't make a choice! Grrrr!

As for Stationmaster,he hasn't been here since May,after he made his big move at the conclusion of the "Picture that song" game. I miss doing that. :( It was fun...quite a stumper. ;)

Okay, for some reason "Spin-Spin" just entered in up there! :) I bettr go or I'll post every tune that happens to "pop in". Later!

"Let it Ride" . I love the, how is it described on the liner notes..."tape delay hi-hat and tambourine." And "You Just Gotta Be" for the lawn sprinkler sound in the background.
From "East of Midnight."
"Whispers of the North" too.

Today is a very unusual day...I don't have any GL songs stuck in my head today

Winter's Claw
08-18-2005, 12:12 AM
There are several GL songs that are constantly getting stuck in my head, including:
"Now and Then"
"10 Degrees and Getting Colder"
"Go My Way"
"Love & Maple Syrup"
"On Susan's Floor"
"Too Late for Prayin'"
"Dreamland"
"Endless Wire" (The chorus plays in my head relentlessly--good thing I love this song)
"Hey You"
"I'll Do Anything"
"She's Not the Same"
"Romance"
Lately, "Romance" has been the one stuck in my head. I would say "Endless Wire" is without a doubt the song that gets stuck in my head the most frequently.

"Waiting for You" has given me no peace. Much as I like the concept (to quote the Man) of "making babies up in the north country ". Trouble is while it is great fun making 'em , one day they turn into teenagers and aaaaahhhh! You have my life in 2005! (lol)

I've had the song "Christian Island" in my head since the trip to Split Rock last Thursday. It so captured the mood as we drove along the lake shore, and is such a happy song. I've been singing it to myself for days and it keeps me smiling.

Whenever I hear a MUZAK version of a Lightfoot tune I find myself "smiling in pain". I quickly try to cleans my cerebellum, cerebrum, mendulla oblungata or whatever that gray stuff that pours out of every CSI's cranium.

This can only be done by by burning 'sweet grass' and chanting "Gord" while sitting cross-legged in front of your favorite audio reproduction device and playing the appropriate tune.

One that I never hear in public, and is not penned by Gord is "Fairwell to Nova Scotia". What an "ear worm" that one is!

Oh, no....it's starting already!

Stuck in my mind…. This weekend it’s been If Children Had Wings, On the High Seas, and Your Love’s Return. Since putting down my guitar yesterday evening, after playing a few, I have to add, Second Cup of Coffee, Too Late for Prayin’ and Tattoo. Bits and pieces, sometimes large chunks, of them all just sort of flash through the head now and then. I’m sure the shuffle will change in a couple of days, and my mind’s juke box will refresh and pay for some new tunes. “If old Dan could see us now I know he’d be so proud.”

For the past few weeks I've had a CD "stuck" in my player. It's a compilation of some recordings of various jam sessions of a few Lightheads. amongst the songs is Derek's interpretation of Inspiration Lady (which is quite beautiful) and that's the song I've been humming the past couple of days.

For the first time (in a long time) one of Gordon's songs has returned to play in my head all day. "Saturday Clothes" is on up there as I type!

Magnificent Outpouring, great guitar part by Red Shea at the very beginning. Terrific song, Gord's voice is incredible on that album "Did She Mention My Name." Probably the album that I've listened to the most.

Whisper My Name from Soundstage seems to be floating around in there right now. But, Shellfish was the song for a while. That tune really has a lot of merit. There is regret and then forgiveness of that regret. At the end of my life, I don't want to be "outsmarted by the things you've left undone". I want everyone to know how I feel right now, just in case something happens. Its really a philosophical lyric about getting right with loved ones. One of my favorites.

Did She Mention My Name is a great album. I love the whole U.A. collection but that album does have a lot of good tracks on it.

Late this afternoon while feeding the horses, Carefree Highway was in my mind (hope the horses didn't mind the awful singing). Anyways I got done the chores and came it. I just got sat down to take my shoes off and low and behold guess what came on?? Yeah, Carefree Highway!! I thought Holy cow, isn't that something.
Another one that bounces around in there quite often is The Watchman's Gone and Brave Mountaineers. Brave Mountaineers reminds me so much of when I was a kid on our farm during the grain harvest in Ontario.... "And I need to be there". I could sit and listen to that song all day.

Hmmm....I'm thinkin' "Dreamland" about.....right now eh? Especially the part about seeing "life through the gutter".

Dreamland (Endless Wire) 2:53

You come to me in times of need
When you can't find anyone
You seem to be much better off now
There's a rainbow number one
We could see life through the gutter then
Till it caused my heart to break
There was too much toil in dreamland
And too much love to take

Sometimes I remember when
We were all dressed up in style
I don't recall the gist of it all
But you drove the young men wild
You could wrap me around your finger
Till it caused my heart to break
There was too much toil in dreamland
And too much love to take
So if you need me near you
Y' can do it if you choose
There was too much toil in dreamland
And too much love to lose

Instrumental

You make me do what you want me to do
Then you run the rules on me
You seem to be the wiser now
Could it be you've been deceived
Anytime you felt like tryin'
You would cause my heart to break
There was too much toil in dreamland
And too much love to take

So if you need me near you now
You can do it if you choose
There was too much toil in dreamland
And too much love to lose

Your set list brought back so many memories of listening to those Gordon LPs from the United Artists and early WB days that I'd love to hear. But he's got so many great tunes from more recent times as well. I think to keep us all happy, he'd need to perform an 8 hour concert. I'm sure there quite a few of us here who would be up for that!

gee - I'm curious about the Joni Mitchell (aka, "the bitch, my bitch..." -James Taylor, last year at his performance in Pittsfield and aired on PBS! So classless James, so classless) photos too Borderstone. A tribute to her, my guess.

I'll add to that "go back to Sundown" and crank it up - I am doin it right now ...rightcheer... see my wonderful daughter just did a 3rd encore for father's day-she ordered the cd's (which I had worn out yes its possible) Sundown and Salute ! Yesssssss ! SOOOOOO the tunes runnin thru my head for a week or two in anticipation since father's day have been:
(nobody has to act surprised at this one I wax endlessly on over time in here....) - Is There Anyone Home (In This House Made of Stone)

and - on Salute, in addition to what I know seems to be a Canoeing song, nevertheless is my Snowshoeing song: Whispers of the North

AND,,,, THE peeace da ruzistawnse: Gordon's answer to: did he lose his vibrato and soaring vocals on SALUTE ?, which pundits suggested, and this song, another of my all-time favourites, good-naturedly thumbs its nose at that precept: TATTOO ! What a vocal - over the hillss... and through the canyoooooooonsssss wahooo

thank you my daughter you've saved my day. Everybody needs a Mamie. I raised me one see... And all the miners know she aint for.... I cant even say it.....She is an angel, as Fine As Fine Can Be...

You say: "This post is very uncharacteristic for Steve... I wonder if he has taken his medication or is drunk....?" neither my fine Lightheads - just experiencing the mood changes my counselor said I would after losing Merry, and this is the first good da** mood I've been in in three months..... ! I got two new Gord CD's - that my daughter knew I wanted for Father's day !

Tres Cause de Celebre ! Crank it up, Sam, the MAN is on the spindle. You may all breath deeply now, and envision my sheer joy of a few favourite songs from Gord playing, steak for dinner, a candle burning at my side, new snowshoes hanging on the wall, and a picture of my family backpacking, and a LIME diet Pepsi. doesn't get much better folks. Good to be back in corfid. Hotda** ! Yippee Yi OKie Ay ! Gord rules ! Crank it up! ok i am allright now.... bye. YEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAWWW

The ole radio station between the ears has a large selection of Gord tunes. Some of those recently found running through my head include:

Biscuit City
I'll Tag Along (love that finger-picking pattern)
A Message to the Wind
Whispers of the North
Your Love's Return
Lazy Morning
Anything for Love
The No Hotel

There are many others and the list (no pun intended) updates itself frequently.

I have to admit "Bisciut City" is not a Gord song that's ever been running through my head.

My brain's selection for today though is "Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald" ...which hasn't happened in a long time.

For me it's been tunes like Seven Island Suite, Blackberry Wine, Old Dan's Records and The Circle Is Small. Not counting Canadian Railway Trilogy.

JJ - I'm THERE at that concert when you get Gord to open with "The List". Excellent choices in the two sets. "Is There Anyone Home?" in concert - havn't heard that since 75 at Colo. State U. in Moby Gym - the COTS Tour, I believe. He also introduced in concert the Wreck , prior to SD'S release - and he asked of people "liked it or not" -I didn't think he'd make it out that crowd loved him so much. He played- to a standing-room only crowd (the b-ball stadium was beyong capacity anyway, and better than a 1/3 were standing the whole show anyway - students can be pretty hearty when they drink beer, or are just plain get psyched-up in a group dynamic on campus like that !

JJ - maybe just swap one for Nova Scotia Farewell, which I have never heard. And speaking of concert-only songs - did anyone ever hear him play "If it Should Please You" added as a bonus track to GG2 - very catchy- very "broad-brimed".

By Jove(ski) ;) That is a real toe-tapper as Gord is fond of saying, or fans are, one or the other.

JJ - I am embarrassed to admit, but I read your set-list opening with "The List" incorrectly, too fast I did, as Yoda would say. I thought it was a dream-list you created. I re-read just now and realize my mistake.....er duhhh

BO (derstone): RE: [ " My brain's selection for today though is "Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald" ...which hasn't happened in a long time. " ] well....... -

- You'll smack me for this, but I can't resist LOL..... The Wreck....only HAPPENED ONCE............ Oh man I am so funny...I.. iiiii uh ...welll its sort of funny.. (furtive glance; perfunctory nod.....eyeing possible exits....)

-also-
BO(rder) & PO (Dunklander) : On the Joni Mitchell thing; I 'spect you both allready know, but in case neither of you read this little trivia - If memory serves correkit - Joni and her then-husband split a flat with Gord in the early days as at least then-friends, which would be a potential explanation for Joni appearing in the given time-period of portions of the vistory video. Hope thats not a big no-sh** . Just a thought :)

(GE)odeticman5 - well, you're not wrong, that is both a dream set list (for me anyhow, as it has atleast 10 fine tunes I've never seen live before and never will) as well as an actual one I pulled from Wayne's archives when I randomly reading old reviews and browsing setlists

http://www.lightfoot.ca/tourschd.htm

(TI)m - although, it's not a catchy melody, I have had that Message To The Wind playing in my head recently - I find it mellow and soothing, same can be said of another songbook extra: Always on the Bright Side - often times, can't get that simple, groovy groove and that GL delivery out of my brain

cheers

WoW!

I looked up this topic out of pure curiosity and discover I've returned to it
1 week shy of the 5th anniversary of posting it!

Pretty weird!

Haven't "really' had a GL song in my head lately but I think a few weeks ago or maybe a month , I found myself singing "You'll Still Be Needing Me". After listening to Disc 1 on Songbook, for the first time in a long while.

5 years,sheesh!

Things happen kind of weird sometimes eh Borderstone ?? Yesterday I had Gord's song "Biscuit City" in my mind a lot, for no apparent reason, as I haven't listen to that song for a little while now ! :)

Been a lo-o-o-o-o-ong time for this one! But....

I had to post here today though because for the
past 48 hours "P. Willows~Cattails" has beeen playing in my brain.

Admittedly,it's actually been more than 2 years since I've had a GL song stuck
like this. (No complaint of course.) Just funny how suddenly that would happen.

Anyway,I'd rather have that than Kanye West or
some of the acts i saw recently on The American Music Awards.

Haven't heard too many of the songs on the local radio stations lately. I miss the days when one of the decent stations played "Daylight Katy," "Dream Street Rose," "Sea of Tranquility," "Circle of Steel," etc. Thank goodness for CDs!

Hey all. I was traveling in the car with my brother today and we had on one of those "Beautiful" music stations. It's a station out of Prescott,AZ (102.1 KAHM * calm *) and the usually play instrumentals.

However, today, just before 12 noon, they played "Rainy Day People".

First time I've heard that on and FM station since the early 2000's

Needless to say,the song is playing over & over now in my brain :)

Hope you all hada good Memorial Day weekend and I wish you a wonderful Lightfoot week. ;)
