Given how we are such fans of G.L.'s and how frequently we post here...have any of you ever had a Lightfoot related dream? (hopefully not nightmare! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif )

I forgot about this dream I had a few weeks ago but just happened to recall it while reading his biography book.

I dreamt that he and I were opening a restaurant together and it was going to be called Gordon's Borderstone Galley or such.
Well all was going fine with this until at some moment in the dream,I accidently knocked over a large refrigerator that had a glass door and inside were Coca-cola bottles!

Why the bottles were glass when they haven't been in nearly 20 years I don't know but he came running up and said,"Walter, just for that you'll have to surrender the use of the name Borderstone!" http://www.corfid.com/ubb/eek.gif

That's all he did! No firing, telling me to get out or anything! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/confused.gif By the way,he looked like he did on the cover of Summertime Dream instead of how he looks now.
Maybe that's why the bottles were glass! Could this dream have taken place in the '70s?? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/eek.gif Cool! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif Been me. Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif

that is some dream!

I had a dream I was at one of his concerts. Just as he walked on stage and started playing, everyone got up and started dancing just like we was at a barn dance in the country ( I am from Arkansas). It was really fun and everyone had a good time. After the show, Mr.Lightfoot and his band was getting everything packed up, and there was huge banquet with enough food and drinks for everyone( of course they stayed for that too) . I even got to dance with him. Yes, that was fun dream. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

I once had a dream that a bunch of us were sitting front row center at Massey Hall. Gord invited Derek and me up on stage to do our versions of Don Quixote and Ribbon Of Darkness. Terry gave his guitar to Derek, and Gord handed his D-18 over to me. I slung the strap over my shoulder and put my arms around the guitar, and the thing started growing. It got bigger and bigger until I could no longer reach the neck or the strings. It was approximately the size of a stand up double bass. Derek kept saying, "Start the song, Cathy. Start the song, Cathy... Will you start the song? What's the hold-up? Start the damned song!" I was freaking out, because the guitar wouldn't stop growing, and every one in the audience was laughing hysterically. Gord didn't help me out at all. He just stood there with a frantic, shocked look on his face, saying something like, "Hey! What are you doing to my guitar?" Terry was sitting on his amp, leaning ahead, shoulders heaving in fits of uncontrollable laughter. I could hear Rick chuckling in the background. It was a traumatic experience! I think I woke up hyperventilating and gasping for air.

Hi Cathy,
wow, what a classic Freudian dream (I think)...and mine probably is too...before the Hamilton shows, I dreamed that I got there, but the show had been moved to another room and nobody told me...

well i mentioned the on the small talk board being one who grew up on Sesame Street, there was this film about trains witch apparently was filmed on the long island RR. well in reality. there was a song that went with it that simply discribes what it's like riding the train. t typed some of the song out in my post on the other board. matter of fact the song might of been sung by Tom Paxton. i heard 1 of this songs on 1 of the internet stations i listen to. well i dreamed that i saw this SS film and swore i heard instead of this other song Lightfoots Steel RR blues was playing while they showed this film. witch is definitly wierd because after all what would Steel RR blues have any connection to a film made for a children's TV show?

Cathy, hm-m? Sounds Freudian alright.
Borderstone, your dream was odd indeed.
I keep having this dream about flying on a plane I am copilot and Gord is dressed up as a pilot all except for that Hawaiian shirt. What is it with that shirt? But, since new dressing trends are the current style with the man, well, it lessens my anxiety. Freudian? Uh yeah I'm thinkin.
And if any of you know my daughter could someone please give that wonderful child a large hint that Gord tickets would be very appropriate this Mothers' Day (every Mothers' Day she gives dear old (as dirt) mom tickets to some awesome concert and usually has very good seats)---so, someone please??? Don't make me beg, I'm too poor to buy them myself...you guys know I would do it for you.

I had to come back to this thread, because I had yet another GL dream. (<---That's surprise not fear,by the way.) ;)

In this one,I take a bus down to Tempe,AZ ( 70 min. or so by bus) and I end up in this non-existant town square (Tempe has none.)
Here I find Gord at a table (looking like the cover of "GG 2" )& signing autographs but also signing a book he's written about building homes for people in need.

His main targets being the poor,flood/hurricane victims, widows of miners and more. The book is called,"The Hammer Project". I pick one he autographs it and as I'm leafing through it,it's filled with odd illustrations. Most likely about homes and the people they're for. Almost forgot,he said he'd donate the proceeds of his next CD to the most recent miners' widows.

He then up & asks,"Walter, are you going to help out in the "hammer project"?
I do not remember my answer but I would hope I said yes! The only thing dumb about this dream is instead of staying and talking with him,I.... get on another bus & go home???!! What kinda ending is that?

Hoo boy! Just thought I'd share! ;) Later!

Well,it's happened again! Another GL dream once again!

Gordon was playing a show at my former workplace (Sheraton Hotel)and I got to see the show. (he looked like circa 1986) After the show, for no reason I decided to roam the halls.
(Like I haven't done "that" enough in the last 6 years! tongue.gif )

Anyway,I walk by an open door to one of the rooms and there he is changing out of what he had on onstage! he says (and I quote) "Do you mind??!!"

Then the door shuts by itself.

I can only think that since he's at my former workplace and also that I didn't get to go to San Diego for his show, both of these things are a past and current cause of frustration for me.

But...instead of "me" being frustrated,Gord is,since he represents that. I hope the next one is a nicer dream, like joining in onstage or something!

Been me,later! ;)

I had a dream once that I got to take Barry Keane's place and play drums for Gord. Since I'm a drummer, that is my ultimate dream come true. Playing for my other favorite, Steely Dan, is my other ultimate dream come true. I do have a pair of Barry K. used drumsticks tucked away at home. My three kids also have one each, all personally given to us by Barry himself.

Gordon is a pretty dreamy guy; it's no surprise he's inspired a few (or perhaps many? ;) ) romantic daydreams among the ladies.

I had a dream a few years ago that I was up in Orillia walking through an above ground tunnel or enclosed walkway. It was a medeaval looking long arch made of limestone rocks with occasional windows. The structure was damp as water seemed to be seeping or dripping in along the length. Moss (Spanish Moss?) was growing in patches on the walls. The walkway ended as it entered a rather modern shopping mall. Finding myself on the second floor I entered a music store and instantly recognized the proprietor as Gord himself!! I don't recall if I had a conversation with him but looking around the room I found an assortment of Lightfoot brand guitar strings, Guitars endorsed by Gord, autographed photographs and record albums, books and a variety of collectables and memorabilia. Gord was ushering a young man, guitar in hand, into a back room where he gave private music lessons. So this is what he did between concerts.... to earn extra cash..... ;)

Sadly, this is were I awoke! :(

Borderstone - you are a very brave man for speaking of the interesting dreams, and offering the paradox in many of them for public debate !LOL.

I have heard that we all, when mentally healthy, do in fact in a way go quietly insane in our dreams, so as to not go insane in real life ! No implication whatsoever; just the talk of larger-than-life dreams made me think of that statement !

Our mind's own way of writing scripts of
imaginary and often bizarre scenarios of sorts, and then we do not become beset by troubles in our real waking world. And Coca-Cola DOES taste better in glass bottles !

Last thought: could it be that Gord's talking to you in the dream of his book about building homes for the needy be a "those two one-armed jugglers- the ego and the id" subtle suggestion from your own Quixotic thoughts that maybe you are telling yourself that in fact you may be the one meant to do this - the home building help ?

I have heard as most have of the project that Jimmy Carter endorsed, and Bob Villa has contributed to - "Homes for Humanity". Maybe you are meant to be the next humanitarian champion of the cause in some area !

And when accepting all the awards to you several years from now, you can say "I'd just like to thank Gordon Lightfoot for inspiring me to help these people" - and then YOU write the book !

My mother is a psychologist, I'd be happy to send her dream interpretations to you for a piece of the action - say a humble 25 % to recoup a portion of my considerable expenses !LOL

All very interesting B-stone, and meant all in good fun from me. Dream away, perhaps your destiny awaits in "there is no rhyme or reason, just a time for each and every one" ! :)

Thanks for the input Steve. :) I for one do believe that every dream has some kind of reasonig behind it,even one's that appear to make no sense at all.

A non-GL dream for example. One night I dreamed I walked through a former neighborhood where I had lived here in Phx. and it had all been changed into eloquent styled shopping malls & high rises. (Almost Greek like & no I'm not Greek. ;) ) This dream seemed to be set in the future.

In reality that had happened to that neighborhood sometime ago but nothing like what my dream showed. However,I did recently atain new employment in a similar "mall" & business setting that had been built on the NW side in '93/'94.

I had the dream nearly two years before getting this job back in May,so I can only guess it was a possible prediction. Maybe that things were goin to get better, which they have, albeit slightly. :)

Borderstone

Here's something that is absolutlely astonishing and incredibly co-incidental. What I am about to post here is 100%,swear to God in Heaven & on the bible true. :)

If you notice the date on the very first message I put in this thread,it reads Jan. 13th,2005. Which is also today's date. Well, last night/early this AM...I actually had another Gordon Lightfoot dream!

2 years to the day that I posted this topic! Spooky! If you notice my first message from Jan. of last year,it wasn't far from that date either.

Anyhow, unlike some of the other one's I've had, this one was completely positive all the way. I was at my apt. and a knock came to the door and who is it but Gordon and all of the band! Instruments in tow and everything. He looked sort of like he did before "Don Q." period.

Gordon said,"I hear you have a song for me and I came here with the guys to work on it with you."
I actually do have many songs (lyrics only) that I've written and to have Gordon be interested, well,it goes without saying.

I don't rememebr which one of my titles he said (dang it!) but he went on about "just changing a word or two here or there" and "how does it sound in your head?"

When I answered the 2nd question,he pulled out his guitar (like out of thin air) and started strumming. For being in a dream it didn't sound too bad! ;)

Just thought I'd share and you can bet this wont be the last one.

I should have related my one dream long ago so l'll take this opportuntity now.
At the time I must have been thinking of the story Bruna Silverheels had told me about an
under par concert in London that she attended
I think it must have been on May 20 1981 at The Dominion Theatre (http://www.dominiontheatre.co.uk/) on Tottenham Court Road in London because she and I were both at the Royal Albert Hall two evenings earlier, although we were not to meet for another 19 years.
As I recall it , it was one of Gordon's problem "concerts" and I heard him talking about it last year.
I think it was the one where an Irishman was pestering very loudly to hear "The Patriot's Dream" and Gord walked off whereupon the bulk of the audience filed out. Bru and some others stayed behind, and were rewarded by Gord who invited them up on stage to have a more intinmate end to the concert.
I remember being very envious whwen I heard this.
Now where was I?? oh yes my dream.
Somehow a group of us were in a similar situation and Gord said he had a pile of new songs but could not decide which to put on his next album, so would we mindlistening to them all and telling him which were the best.
I really do not remember any more than that so I am unable to predict any songs on what hopefully will be a new album in the not too distant future (like next year) are you reading this Gord?!!

Patti

That's right, Walter, I did read about the Hammer project. I read a few of your old post years ago and they were alright. You otter not be tooo serious. Me, I have to goof off once in a while, but I am a serious person usually.
I had a few dreams about him. Once he was playing this really nice music to me and it was like it was real. What a nice way to wake up. I like thinking about that....(play it again).

Have had a recurrent dream that I always saw Gord driving a green Grand Prix. (Is that the bigger one than the Grand Am?) This was always over by the U of M where I worked. He would come by and I'd be waiting for the bus. I should have thumbed a ride. LOL :) Did he ever have a car like that??

Cathy

This is a dream having nothing at all to do with Gord. It was a dream I've had at least 5 times since childhood.
In the dream, I'm about 12 years old, and am riding a beautiful white stallion up the side of the road, where I lived. When I reached the top of the hill, my neighbor saw the horse and asked me to bring it over to her place. So, I proudly rode the horse right up to her... and it changed into a rusty old bicycle. I wonder what the significance of this dream is.

picture of a proposed statue on

"Ride a Cock Horse to Banbury Cross

To see a Fine Lady upon a White Horse,

With rings on her fingers and bells on her toes,

you were obviously meant to be a musician Cathy!!
Any ideas anybody what the significance of the
"rusty old bicycle" is??
The nearest google found was a book
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/0877843481.01._SS500_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
the amazon.com review of which says
"Book Description
"Once there was a magic bicycle that found a boy," begins this tale of adventure and suspense. When John Kramer comes across an old, rusty Spirit Flyer bicycle, he finds it far from ordinary. First, the bike helps him save a neighbor's barn from burning. Then it brings him into conflict with the boys in the Cobra Club, a representative of Goliath Toys and other forces that not only want John's bike, but want it destroyed. While John learns abou the Magic in the bicycle, every reader will be delighted as they join him for this fantastic ride.

Card catalog description
The Spirit Flyer, a rusty old bicycle found in the city dump, surprises its new owner, John Kramar, when it magically lives up to its name, introducing John to an unknown world and changing his life for good."

Very interesting, John. The horse looks similar. I think mine was a little bigger, though. And I sure a h*ll wasn't wearing a gown. I think I spent 90% of my youth dressed in jeans.

How about this one? I'm out playing baseball with the Fraser kids, my neighbors, about age 12, and a UFO slowly flies over us. I've had this dream several times, too.

Speaking of non-GL dreams...I watched "Hotel Rwanda" and 1966's,"The Sand Pebbles" back to back the other night.

Boy,was that a mistake! I ended up dreaming some militant type group was holding me and a lot of other people hostage in an abandoned concert hall!

That's the last time I watch 2 violent movies together!

Ok, I changed my mind. I'll write about that dream I had in March. First, we were in church. Gordon was at the podium. I was in the front row. I think Gordon was a little surprised to see me there. (usually when I go to church, I sit toward the back. Lately, I have not been attending very often)Ok, so Gordon was at the podium. I had heard he was coming, so I don't know why he would be surprised that I was right there. I don't remember if he was singing or talking...I think he did have his guitar. Afterward a bunch of us were having the social group in another room and of course Gordon and I were together. The best part of the dream was that he and I had our arms around each other in a very comfortable grip. Then, we were suddenly outside going to some big building and there were quite a bunch of people going back and forth. Then I couldn't find Gordon, and some gruff looking man asked me in kind of a mean way if I was going to go home to my mommie now. !? ...I said no, that I was going to hang out with Gordon if I could find him. Then the guy smiled like he had just heard some good news.

Patti,Ithink you saw Gordon atthe podiumof a church because,in a sense, you and the rest of us sort of talk about Gordon in a praising manner.

I'm not saying that we completly put him above God,but it can be said that we should be putting God on this pedastal (for lack of a better word)instead of Gordon.

Maybe that's why Gordon is "surprised" to see you in church. He'd expect you at a concert but since you don't often attend,he's surprised.

So maybe, that tight hug you and he share and then you lose sight of him,is a message that's saying you should be putting God first and Gordon second.

The man asking about you going home to mommy, could mean he's asking if you want to be born again. (I'm not saying I know this to be a big religious dream but it seems that way.)

Why he would smile,I can't guess.

Hi Borderstone.
I do put God first in my life. That's why I love others. Most of my life has been like a river of light. I am a child of God and have tried to stay close to Jesus.
In the dream, I think Gordon was like a guest speaker. I think he was suprised that I knew.
The tight hug just seemed like togetherness. We were together in the social room and respected as a couple in the church.
I don't know what all was going on outside and what that big building might have been, but I had a feeling it had something to do with the entertainment business.
Why that one man would be so gruff, I can't guess.
Maybe the guy smiled because he knew Gordon would find me.

Time again for another one! Yep,the night before last. This one was kind of short. I dreamed some people (who obviously knew me but whom I couldn't see in the dream) were giving me a pizza party!

Gordon was there and wearing a hawaiian shirt! :D Looked like the one I own by the way.
He kept gesturing to me,through a window,to hurry up and get into the party but for some reason I was busy doing something else that most likely, wasn't that important.

By the time I finished,whatever..the party was over and everyone had left. I got one solitary slice of pizza.

When it comes to having a dream about Gordon, mine was one where I meet him at some sort of a social gathering where there are a lot of celebrities. Somehow, I felt so at ease talking to the man himself. Anyway, at the end of the evening, as I was getting ready to leave, he asked me to hold on for a minute while he went to get something for me. Lo & behold, he gives me a nicely wrapped package, and when I open it I find that it has every album he ever recorded on CD. When I asked him what was the reason, he said it was because he simply felt like it. Now that's what I call a sweet dream.

Well,it's been over 5 months since the last time I spoke of a GL related dream but I really have an important one to tell you about! Important why? I dreamt it on his birthday!!!

This morning before I woke up,I dreamed that I was at an after-concert "meet & greet" and Gordon walked up to shake my hand, take a photo and sign (get this) the non-existant "Night Light" album (cover)that Zone Ranger made for me here on Corfid!

He was sort of looking like he does on the "Waiting For You" back cover and some folks behind me asked him to sing a little of one of his UA songs (I can't remember which one now). I could actually hear him singing whatever it was.
Then they left and I noticed he had put on those glasses he wore on the cover of Early Lightfoot (before he grew the beard and moustache). Said his eyes were tired.

I said,"y'know I saw you in August,2002 on my Grandmother's birthday"?
Gord:Oh,did she like it?
ME:"She wasn't there it was just on the same day." "She's been gone some time now."

(Now everyone knock wood when I tell you what he said next! ) :

Gord:"Oh,I'm sorry about that". "Speaking of being gone, the fellas & I have decided this next tour will be the last".

Me:"I sort of had a feeling it might be". ( Bite my tounge!! )

Gordon:"Well don't you worry,we will be in Phoenix in August". (A dream prediction??! )

Then it turned into a whole other dream about my job.

Anyhow,I dreamed a Gordontime Dream on his birthday....weird!! ;)

I was at The House of Gord on Saturday night - on his birthday, recalling last year when the whole place sang Happy Birthday to him every night. Backstage I was honoured to give him a card signed by many of the folks present and printouts of the wishes from fans here at corfid..
it was nice to see Mr. Bernie Fiedler on Saturday and be there in that wonderful hall with all of those memories..

I had a "Gordontime Dream" last night for the first time in recent history. In my dream, Gord looked the same as he did in about 1980. He was doing a private concert for Corfidians only. The venue was very small and intimate (like a coffee house type of place) that had sofas and overstuffed chairs instead of regular theater seats. There were only about two dozen of us there. Instead of staying on the stage, Gord would walk up to each individual and sing a few lines of each song, while looking into the person's eyes. I remember feeling so shy, I could barely make eye-contact with him! It was delicious!!! After the concert, there was a big pool, and we all went swimming. (I wonder if the swimming pool has any Freudian significance? ;) )

Well I have never had a (a sleep)dream about Gord.

But just the other day my daughter was home from college. She mentioned to me in a very surprised fashion over breakfast. "Dad, I had a dream about Gordon Lightfoot". She couldn't believe it. My family are so saturated by his music and life from my obsession, they find it quite amusing. But, she was laughing at how she would have a dream about GL. They were planning a New Years eve party for a few days. She said the dream was a party at our house and Gordon was there. Sitting on our couch(sofa). And she asked to play a song. Thats was all I got.

But about daytime dreams....and fans...and such.

My friend's wife is a blue rodeo fan. She goes to all the concerts. Loves Jim Cuddy. Her husband never goes to the concerts with her. He says that would ruin the whole evening as she pretends and dreams of all sorts of things while she sees the band...goes back stage..(she makes them brownies etc). ( all in are 50s here...wanting to be teenagers again)

When she comes home, as the husband tells the story, he has Cuddy sex.
I guess he figures there is a benefit to him for his wife having an obsession as a fan of Blue Rodeo.

So the question today is ....

How many guys out there are enjoying the benefits of there wife being a fan of Gordon Lightfoot.
So they can claim they are getting Lightfoot love. ...so to speak.

Your comments sound like more than a dream girlie, "dreams really do come true, a dream is a wish from the heart..." hm-m-m me thinks with one eyebrow up in an alarming position. funny.
Man if Gord ever read this stuff he would NEVER stop laughing.
But, no, seriously, I had a dream and Gord was singing this song in one of those artsy fartsy Zen/high art Chinese documentaries, it was in cantonese so I couldn't make out the words (I don't speak the language, I thought now what kind of dream is this?, so Gord is singing in this high opera voice and my ears start to hurt.
So what do you guys make of this?
I thought we had a dream interpreter here, cause, buddy, I need to have that dream interpreted... desperately.
As it turns out when I awoke the kettle was skreeching so that goes to show you how dreams and our rock whereupon we lay our heads does play some significance.
So, Borderstone where do you lay your head? Maybe you need to change directions, ya know if it's Eaast to West maybe you need to go to North and South or something that tunes in your dreams to give you crystal clear channneling.

[quote=Cathy;114644]I once had a dream that a bunch of us were sitting front row center at Massey Hall.

That was quite a dream Pam. I had a couple of them last fall, two Tuesday nights in a row, but not quite a vivid as yours. In one dream he called me up and wanted me to come over. I went and I told him I brought breakfast and he said that was fabulous. Then four guys came over and we were talking and one guy and I looked out the window at my car and he asked how my tires were and I said they were alright. Then a bunch of other people started coming over.
Another dream, there were a bunch of us riding in a car and we were happily talking about some concert plans.
Then two or three weeks ago I had one dream and I was walking with him and he was carrying a bucket with a candle in it, and I told him that I had a bucket with a candle in it just like his at the top of the driveway and I could tell that he wanted me to get it. Now I want to have another dream where I have my candle bucket too. .... oh well.

Bucket
To see or carry a bucket in your dream, indicates an improvement in your current situation. If the bucket is filled, then it signifies abundance, love and wealth. If the bucket is empty, then it signifies that you will overcome some loss or conflict.

Candle
To see a burning candle in your dream, signifies that good luck and hope will be coming your way in small and steady amounts. You are in a comfortable stage in your life and may be seeking spiritual enlightenment. Lit candles are also symbolic of intellect, enlightenment, awareness or the search for truth.

Well,my turn once again. :)

Last night/early morn I had this fairly simple yet unique dream that Gordon, myself,Ian (of Ian & Sylvia) and David Gates were getting on a tour bus to go to San Francisco.

Before boarding the bus we broke into a strange rendition of "Early Morning Rain" that kind of looked like a music video (in the dream) and that went like this:

"Into the San Francisco rain,
on a tour bus we will ride."
"Over the Golden Gate so tall
and through Haight-Ashbury besides".
"So we best be on our way......into the San Francisco rain."

To top it off,Gord was dressed in dark clothes and had that post-UA long curly hair & that new moustache that he had grown, like in that clip for "Saturdy Clothes".

I understand why Ian was there but David Gates' presence is puzzling.

Another doozy of a dream but still  .

Here's a new on from last night. I Dreamed that Gordon and some young woman (Gord was young too) were in an "unusual" wedding ceremony.

They were singing "Nous Vivons Ensamble" to each-other (with music which I heard clear as a bell) and before the end of the cermony, instead of having a wedding cake they playfully fed fruit to each-other.

A description for you ladies out there: No priest or minister there and Gordon was dressed in those light blue clothes from the Sundown LP cover but was clean-shaven and his hair was as curled as it was in 1970. (I'm sure that's a neat image for you. LOL!) :)

Anyhow, during this, some other woman walked up to Gordon and handed him a piece of paper and ........then the phone rang and woke me!

Never know how it ended but pretty neat dream. ;)

Nous Vivons Ensemble (Songbook) 3:45

We've got to stay together
We've got to find each other now
That is how we can learn all about the other man's song
On the plains of Abraham
When they sent the lamb to die
You and I were asleep in the Rock of Ages
Remember the unborn children still to come
If you need me and I need you
There's nothin' else needs sayin'
Understand it
I'm not too deaf to hear the song you're playin'

Car comprend moi

Walter, I think that it is interesting that you have dreams of him that are in the past tense. ...OR maybe it just means something else.

Last night I had a dream about him. We were talking on the telephone. At the end of the conversation he said, "It was nice talking to you," and then I said, "I hope you will call me again sometime soon." Then he didn't say anything. I didn't either.

Val Magee and I once freaked out when we found a tiny bad hanging in a curtain. Derek Kidd got ahold of it with a dish towel or something, and threw the bat out the door. Seems I remember he was quite pal afterwards. It must be tough. It's okay for women to be wimps around scary creatures. Men have to suck it up and just handle it, AND let on that they aren't at all afraid. But... I had him figured out. He was trembling in his sneakers.

that is some dream!

Hey Stephanniel,
It's a backstage routine, the concert club or house management provides a "Kraft Tray" which is "eats & drinks" for the band. Sometimes there is just too much for them to finish, and the "Backstage Pass Guests" finish off what's left. Maybe you were part of this experince in your dream?
Cheers,
Christopher

Bats brought back some memories for me too. In the early 70's, when we lived by 'the old house', (no one lived in it), sometimes in the evenings, we would see a bat fly out of the chimney. My sisters and I would like to talk in a W.C. Fields accent back then and we'd say, "There went a baaaat, outa the chimneah..." Once my Dad overheard us and chimed in saying, "And it flew like a bat outa the chimneah..."

My dream with Gord in it. Note - this is one of my longer threads, for those who understandably find them tedious - just skip it, as I'm sure you do LOL, otherwise, settle in and have a spell. Caution, I caught myself elaborating so much detail that it is in two parts in order to be thoughtful of the reader's vital signs. "Thush begineth part one" as Sean Connery's 007 shaid....

OK - I will try to lay this one down in words. I dream that I am in a non-existant in real-life conference center in the airport (the Municipally-subsidized conference center is in reality not at all by or attached to the airport, but near the ocean , , a recurring dream...and as such please forgive me if I have described this one before to all good corfidites. Setting: in the airport in San Diego, more specifically, a multi-tiered problem to figure out; central theme being I am lost. Real common, that, in a dream. But what is odd as central themes again is that all the geometry is wrong. Like, spiral stairs leading nowhere, or spiraling, ramped floors like in a drive-up parking complex, where the transition from floor 2 to 3 is a vague thing, and I always get it wrong in real life when I come back to the car, which only, it seems, reinforces the dream. OK Gord will appear...

So I am first in the conference center, and my tongue and mouth go dry; tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth, and all I could make in the microphone for a sound was something like the sound of a fish when you squeeze it after gutting it (sorry ladies LOL) with in excess of 8,000 mappers & geodesists waiting for me to give my "preezentation"(this I have had actually happen in that very setting, minus the Escher-like sideways stairs..lol),soooo....I'm at the diaz, my mouth is dry, and I panic... then -poof ! - I am apparently down below it, in a second-city-ish mall under ground level.

And I don't like retail structures under ground level. Walk out garden-level - OK, but in Denver (suburban Lakewood, actually), there was a HUGE mall that locals surmised ,unsubstantiated, was the largest mall in the world in real life. It was called Cinderella City, and they must've figured they lost the men on that one by virtue of a girly-sounding name. Yeah, tell the guys fom Ice Road Truckers that you're a grown man "going to Cinderella City, for a few things, this and that, did they want to come shop with you? waap! thud ! muttered jeers and laughter in the background.

For this apparent reason, worthless word-of mouth had it that they built (under) the "City" a lower level of parking (in spirals with ambiguous floor numbers agggh), and rows of shops with actual cinder-strewn streets and old-fashioned (well, maybe late 1940's Bogart Sam Spade gumshoe movie-set-like appearance ) with fake street lanterns. and strore-fronts, and put "guy stuff "shops down there - pocket knife shops, sporting goods, travel accoutrements, and a now-defunct I think tasteless novely store called Spencer's gifts, pen store, a mini real by-gosh hardware store with self-consciously nostalgic wood floors, a electronic andother "gadget" store ( my mother and Merry used to call my affection for steel gadgets "bright and shiney's) eg Leatherman mini-tools,etc. - , like a raccon in what it steals, usually oreferredetc., and appropriately called it Cinder Alley.

Well, I had gone there a few times with friends as a teenager, driving down from our little "SouthPark" of Estes Park, where I went to High School. Wht ties this real-world part importantly to the dream was the fact that every time we went, we'd agree as a group of 5 or 6 to split up and meet back upstairs in one of the myriad wings, each with three above-ground levels, and one below, with theme names to the wings, and a central pavillion ala Jefferson Madisonian style, with the requisite big fountain.

We'd variably get lost ultimately in meeting our friends at designated time and place, and always seemed to wind up coming up out of Cinder Alley in the wong "hatch" - there were, brainlessly, mini-pavillions in addition to the central one. All presumably to create the maze theory in retail, and successfully at that, where the goal is to keep the customer in a puzzling non Euclidian environment where logical in/out uo/down don't seem to work, and you spend more money !

Thats the theory, still in use to get to the bread and meat and commodities in grocery, and have to navigate past high-mark-up candy, chips, and packaged food to get to the milk and bread. Inpractice however, it just pi**es eveyone off, Target is like this ,too, and Cinderella City was the Arch de Triumph of confusion and pi**ing off customers; with urban legends born in the mall alone of people having heart attacks trying to find their way back to their car.... being born and dying there, living on nachos and orange Julius (just kidding that part). Cindarella City not surprisingly wnt out of business, after turning into a gang haven, and even got to (per urban local legend) open fires in 5-gallon drums with (sad part) homeless people in it, too.

It got torn down, being a zoning albatross and a blight on the otherwise allready undistinguished light-industrial/commercial transitionary enclaves in Lakewood over time anyway. In some attempt to quash everyones' bad memories of the mall's demise, the city fathers soothed the collective conscience with some benevolent structure on the bentonite-ridden grounds there (that was the other problem, wings were sinking in it originally...) .

Back to the dream, having established sufficient cause in real life for such confusion in dreams. In the dream, I go from the conference center poof! down to the sub-mall, one end of the unwisely spiraling floors in the mall ending at a Marriot Hotel, the other end at the airport (mixed a little, but not unlike DIA airport - you know the one with the tent-roof.... OK I am wandering up/down/Escher-like sideways at times it seems in this old distressed mall , when poof! Iam taken down one more level/concept into a subterranean cavern, repleat with stalgmites and tites, and , of course, a confusing spiral route out of and upward throug the cave, presumably to the old mall, then up to the conference center- where of course I am scheduled to present again at an impossible to make time, on a map and white paper presentation I spent weeks on wth my tireless colleague.. Oh - white paper humour time - know what the difference is between a presentation and a PREEZentation ? about 3 parts ego, $2,000 more wasted on man-hours and overhead puting it together on work time, one part regional colloquialism in pronunciation, and one part pretentious airs ! OK shop humour, sorry...
Well I'd better break this up lest a reader die from boredom. In exciting part II, we meet Gordon, who has sage advice couched in metaphor and wilderness lore, I am inspired, and approach my escape a whole new way, at present, down in the cave (which BTW as you know, is the name of the dive Gord first had his paid GIG in the US, I believe the story goes, where i grew up in younger years in Cleveland, Ohio. Interessting.... Gord and the "cave" of a different hue in a dream...all that AND more, IN PART 2, "The case of the impossible Swiss Euler spiral from the cave, out and up to...revelation" in our next segment. Hope I did not lose two many here....

Hey guys - I have a feeling this one came up once before - but even so I'd still make a short (for me LOL) post of it anyway. I dreamed- two times now.... that I heard a new song by Gordon that was absolutely - stunning/mesmerizing - like combining the best aspects of IYCRMM, CRT, Restless, Sea of Tranquility, Softly, - you get the idea.

In the other dream - ethereal songs as Gord says with a smile - One that combined the best qualitites of:" Is There Anyone Home", "The Soul is the Rock", "A Lesson in Love" (even though that one is both on favourite and least favourite lists lol) and so forth.

POINT BEING - in two different dreams now that I have had, maybe a year apart, I have heard complete, original, never-recorded Gordon-music, lyrics and all, orchestration - like Nick DeCaro in the mid 70's, Gord in vocal "prime" in other words my brain made-em-up - no sh** - and when I woke up, I desperately was looking for a pen and paper - don't you hate that on dreams ?

And by the time I found writing material, the dream was fading to the point of could not write it down. Since I don't know how to write music, I could not write down the bars, but if I could keep the lyrics in mind, I could later hum it.

I *really* did dream two complete songs.... if only I could get 'em down on paper, right now I'd be happy to just remember them. In the dreams, i was really excited - like when you see on the CD shelf - LP albums in the day - a new Lightfoot album and you just about jump up and down, but you play it cool cause people are watching...... LOL
HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANY OF YOU - WHOLE SONGS , NOT JUST GREAT RIFFS ?

Different kind of a dream, last night I dreamed that some guy sent me a note and I was reading it and it said, "Hang on to him. Something must have happened. Gasp."

 ... dreams!

The night before last Gordon and I were out camping and we were standing around kissing a little bit and he was pulling a warm hat down over my head. Then I woke up.

I had this new dream a few days ago but haven't really had time to post it.

Last Friday,I dreamed Gord (once again) came to me about something music related.

This time he was desperatly seeking a piece of lost music and seemed very distraught about it. So distraught,he seemed on the verge of tears.

He was dressed in the clothes he wore on PBS's "Soundstage 79" and his hair was more tightly curled then Mr. Mike Brady's. LOL! I kept telling him (no joke intended) "It's allright,Gord,it's allright."

Then he left and I searched for the music and found it (can't recall where) but then I couldn't locate him! I finally found him down by the Phoenix airport, cold & scared. :(

...but he was happy when he saw the sheet music. ;)

(I messed up on my keyboard of my new laptop - hope some of this isn't repeated) I have had a few dreams of a recurring theme: visiting Gord at his home. The places were always at night, huge, surreal, vine-covered, small dimly lit windows, and never the same twice. Gord would appear only briefly but say nothing.
I also had a concert dream, like others on this thread. I went on stage and began to sing "Drifters" for the crowd - Gord had failed to show up! Well, SOMEone had to step up or step back........so I did......woke up before the first line of the song was completed. I remember that I sounded awful, by the way...

I should add that if one looks at the photo on the back of "Endless Wire", that's the mood of the "dream scenes".....

I think I'll pretend this dream was about Gordo, ...

Three weeks ago, I had a dream that my boyfriend and I were outside and he wanted me to go with him to the Dollar Store to see a GOLDEN FIDDLE!

I looked up fiddle on dreammoods.com and it said:

Fiddle
To see a fiddle in your dream signifies harmony in the home.

Hey! Glad I signed in today. :)

That's the first post I've seen forthis tpic in over 3 years!

I'd have done some myself, but strangely,I haven't had any GL related dreams in quite awhile. At least that i can recently recall.

I posted this topic in January of 2005,so in 2013 it'll be 8 years!

An Interesting dream though Patti. I once hada dream about Mariah and me in a church!

Case you foks might wonder,I'm doing okay. Had a health issue earlier this month (blood clot, right leg ) but thanks to the doctor and some med's,it's cleared itself up very well.

To quote hawkeye from MASH,my calf turned into a hefty Jersey Cow! (Not funny,I was limping like an injured war veteran. In fact I was homebound for 2 weeks. UGH!!

Hop all of you are A-OK. It's been Borderstone,I'll try to get back here more often. ;) BYE!

Nice hearing from you again Borderstone, but sorry to hear that your leg was sick.
You dreamed about you and Mariah in a Church? hmmm, that sounds like an interesting dream too.
That one I had 3 weeks ago about the fiddle, I am pretty sure it was about Gordon, except that we were both about 16 or 17 years old.
Also, about a month or so before, I dreamed that he wrote me a song. I read the words in the dream. It was only a line or two, but it was perfect.
I hope you are feeling better, and you stay well.
