I got another question. My questions are not mundane Gordon Lightfoot questions, they are questions designed to make you kind of think http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif Okay the question is...(drum roll)....

When you listen to the song Sundown, does it get you...."excited," even in the smallest possible way? (excited is a more mild term for some other more direct word http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif)

Every time I hear that song it gives me a "feeling d@mn good" kind of vibe http://www.corfid.com/ubb/redface.gif http://www.corfid.com/ubb/redface.gif I don't know...every time I listen to it, the song and the way he sings it, it just gets me thinking, you see http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif

Or am I the only freak on the planet with this...reaction to this melody?? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

If not Sundown then what song kind of gives that "high" feeling if you know what I mean?

Yeah, Sundown is one of those songs. I
find its an appropriate song for dinner,
dance, listening around the house, and
even sitting back with a special someone
while sipping on a nice wine. GL seems to have a lot of those songs. Trust me,
shazia, toure not a freak, and if you
are, no, youre not the only one!!!!

Later

Doug

Deleted original post - it looked inappropriate, in the cold light of day.
Sorry!
Please put it down to the fact that I'd just had my first couple of glasses of wine for five months.

(Note to self - don't drink and post!)

Sundown is a Classic Hit for sure. Just heard a little 250 watt daytimer in Eaton, Ohio 1130/WCTM (one of the only stations in America...perhaps the only...station playing Drake Chenault Beautiful Music...what some call elevator music)play a cover of Sundown...with strings and all coupled with vocals. Not sure of the artist as the station never back announces any of their songs.

Since i heard the song 30 years ago about this time, all it really does is remind me of 30 years ago about this time. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Well.it's also a nice laid back song for the end of the day. Excited? Not really, except that it's a GL song. Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

Sitting down and listening to the album Summer Side of Life. I think it was the first album I ever bought and still one of my favorites

Sundown? when I hear it, it never fails to conjure up the memory of Gord on stage at the Royal Albert Hall breaking the news that the song had cracked the US charts. He was so thrilled, so happy, and from my seat in the front row I was able to witness that joy close up. He was almost hopping with glee.

I've never cared much for Sundown, not from the first time I heard it until now. Yeah, fine, shoot me, see if I care, welcome to the posse. I don't care much for the attitude it was written from.

it sure is a damn good song but i've gotten to the point where i've heard it so many times that i'm starting to get sick of it (along with the carefree highway).

its not that i don't like them cause these two songs are among the first that i heard from him and after hearing them too many times, i think they deserve a rest.

i'm listening to river of light on repeat mode these days http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

shoot me,

so sorry not-so-shrinking-Violet but I really can't resist the obvious retort:-
"they shoot horses don't they"
basically I'm with you and Mende on this one but for a different reason I have for many years found Sundown to be overwhelmingly boring and repetitive and hard to see why it was such a big hit. Now Inspiration Lady... there's a hit if ever I heard one (and I did predict to a friend within 15 minutes of seeing them win on television the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest from Brighton,England that Abba and "Waterloo" would be smash hits (but they were after all a rare example of real talent on that much maligned annual show.
(does Celine Dion count she won it in 1988 with "ne partez pas sans moi" I wonder!!)and she a Kaybecwow was representing Switzerland to boot)
Finally dare I admit to liking a few of her recent efforts but then I used to like "driving all night"!!

Sundown and it's partner Carefree Highway made it as a hits because they are easily "radio playable" and catchy tunes in their repetitiveness. They are favs of mine because of what they represent in Gord's career stateside, but musically...no. From that album I much prefer Seven Island Suite and The Watchman's Gone.

I am with John...Inspiration Lady is much more my style of "hit" music. Whether it will be hit publicly remains to be seen...but from the reactions I have been seeing here...it's definitely a hit with us. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

Some songs get me excited, but not "Sundown".

To feel good, I would help you if I could
But I am out here searching for the things
that might have been
I need no more reminders
Not one love letter have I seen...
