At the front end of "High and Dry" Gord says
"If it wasn't for love sick sailors all the rest of us would have been__________"

I'm at work so I'm doing this from memory so I think it goes something like the above. Kinda sounds like he is saying "floatsome".

You know those type of songs where you can't quite make the lyric and your mind plays scrabble.

Does anyone know the word?

Ok, here's the plan. Have your people get in

The 2nd part of the question was rhetoric.
(how much that is?). How on earth could we answer it anyway. He says he loves her half as much as he loves her spanish moss. Since we know not how much he loves her spanish moss we know not how much he loves her. I've always thought that to be a tongue in cheek lyric and quite clever don't ya' think?

Yes! Extremely clever, actually! This isn't
"background music". There's so much going on
in much of this stuff that I've always wanted to JUST STOP dead in my tracks & just sit and listen..... and completely
absorb everything. It can invade & overwhelm
all my senses at times. I love it.

classicmixdj,

Yes, I agree. "Summertime Dream" would be a great place to start - for some. But each Gord Lp seems to have a "flavour" of it's own! So I think I'd try to match up the individuals with the LP I think they could relate to and appreciate most. I'm just a
little matchmaker kind of person.

Yes, I've always found that "stub my toe" line very amusing....it sounds like he was just really trying to find something to put in there and couldn't come up with anything and just said, oh, what the hell!
I love his sense of humor too, you really have to be tuned in to catch it.
When I saw him in NY on 8/9 ( which was great) when he did CRT he paused after "many are the dead men" for what seemed like an eternity...you could tell he was having fun with it...and just as I started to chuckle he finished the line. But it reallywas funny.
OK, here's one. I'm sure you'll know it but it's fun anyway. One of my (zillions of) favorite lines of his:

O say can you see, my best friend is me,

I just think that's great! And there are so mnay others...

Man, I play "Long Way Back Home" all the time when I'm playing out. No one ever guesses who wrote it. That "Back Here On Earth" is a little hidden treasure. Probably the most obscure of the UA albums but possibly the best of them (though there is alway "Lightfoot!").

Actually, we did do that last November! Not that we contacted anyone, but at our "Lightfoot convention" in Toronto, we had a 2 hour trivia contest. Our teams were color coded, and the Bitter Green team won. The other teams were Approaching Lavendar, Red Velvet, and Big Blue.

I can't promise another one at the 2nd annual convention in May, they do take forever to write, and the players were just too darn good!
