Everyone remembers Paul Mcartney and Stevie
Wonders Ebony and Ivory. Willie Nelson and
Julio Eglasius joined forces in To All the
Girls I've Loved Before.
I sometimes think that these duets end up
not living up to either artist past work.
If you could team GL up with someone, who would it be? This is not a trick question.
There is no right or wrong answers. It's a matter of opinion.
Here is a short list of some of my dream teams.

1. Al Stewart and John Lennon
2. Gordon Lightfoot and Karen Carpenter
3. John Denver and Jim Croce

I thought this would be a fun little game we
could all play and my only rule to this is:

Please- NO WAGERING!!!!!!

Well, that's a pretty cool list. There's only one problem. Four of the six people aren't with us anymore.

I'd like to see him team up with Emmylou Harris.

Everyone, of course, must think of the obvious: Dylan and Lightfoot.

I kind of fancy the combination of Lightfoot and Carole King.

Or Jann Arden and Gord.

Gord and either Joni Mitchell or Joan Baez would be a classic.

G.L. and the late Eva Cassidy, who did a marvelous cover of EMR!

Keeping in the vein of the more obscure combos (like Iglesias & Nelson) what about: G.L. and Pavarotti! (After all, Gord has been described as a former Opera Hall singer in some accounts of his career!) http://www.corfid.com/ubb/confused.gif

Gord

I emailed Jann Arden a few weeks back (I'm a member of her website as well) and I made the suggestion to her about teaming up with Gord once he has bounced back. That would be the ultimate CD to have. You know having a Canadian legend together with a very promising female legend as well. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'd mention Anne Murray as well, but well she doesn't do anything for me musically LOL

I like all of your suggestions. I would of
liked to see GL and Joni Mitchel. That would
be a very good combination. I would love to hear more if anyone would like to try.
What about GL and Dan Fogelberg? Would anybody pay to see that?

For old times' sake, how about Terry Whelan from their Two Tones days?

Titan - I would pay to see Gord anytime with anybody and I like Fogelberg.

hello, wow you guys have been thinking about this...I think something classical would have been so-o-o-o awesome. But, what would Gordon Lightfoot choose? Maybe, Ian and Sylvia. Johnny Cash would be awesome with Gordon and with Gord's Nashville background doesn't sound too far off (that new video of Johnny Cash on the Nine Inch Nails cover WOW). Joan Baez and Gords' voices would be an awesome combination, or Jewel and Gord. Also, Roberta Flack and Gord would be impressive. Now, What songs would they do?

I like the Lightfoot and Johnny Cash idea.
I really like the Highwayman song that Cash
did with Willie Nelson, Kris Kristopherson,
and Waylon Jennings. Gl and Cash could of put together somthing special.

The Highwaymen put out 3 CD's. Those 4 guys' voices gel amazingly well together. They are one of the best collaborations ever.

Boy, that would be another one of those nights to remember, huh?
If that evern happens and you're there Char, you'd better take pictures, because I won't believe it without proof, even if I'm there.

I sure would, especially if Fogelberg sang Leader Of The Band.

I'll tell you what, This topic has been a good one. It's amazing what a brain storm can do. I slept on the Emmy Lou Harris idea and woke up and decided I liked it. Somebody said Carol King and GL earlier which is not too bad. Stevie Nicks and Gord would have been awesome, Oh Man, Oh Man! Gord on lead vocals and Stevie on backup with that haunting raspy voice echoing in the background. Imagine this:

Gord- "Carefree Highway"
Stevie and Gord- "Let me slip away"
Gord- "slip away on you"

I would love to hear some more suggestions on who GL could team up with. Keep em comin!!!

Gord and Carol King would be good. OK now. We have all of these good ideas. I want someone to volunteer to start the steps necessary to make some of these things a reality as soon as Gord is on the mend.

It's so fun to read everyone's ideas on this site. I'm soooo glad I found this web site.
I'm glad nobody suggested John Cougar to sing with Gord. I think he (Cougar) would
try to dominate the performance and piss me off.

John Mellencamp...hasn't he succumbed to nicotine addiction yet? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/tongue.gif

He and Gord could have a cough-off! Hmm, wonder if Gord's elongated hospital stay was beneficial in that regard and weaned him off the smokes?

gwen snyder

I think I read on this board somewhere in the recent past that he had started to smoke again. But, some people need the nicotine! It really accents who they are, it really exasperates me, but, only an opinion. Gord could easily have ben the 5th Highwayman... too bad. Joan Baez and Gord could do IYCRMM. And I would be impressed with them doing A Painter Passing Through.

I would love to see him teamed with any one of these artists>> GL & Neil Diamond/GL & Al Stewart/GL & Gerry Rafferty (you know;"Baker Street")? How about a variation on C,S,N & Young? That being GL & the group America? On the female side I'd suggest Olivia Newton John,Anne Murray and Carly Simon. Do you think that he would want to duet with any of todays artists? (and no I don't mean rappers). Borderstone, outta here and Al-ber-ta Bound! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Borderstone ( and all ) I liked your suggestions, all of them. Wouldn't it be nice
to hear something of quality again from any
from the group you mentioned? I have been accused of "living in the 70's" by all who know me well, but I think that the overall
talent from people like GL, Fogelberg, Al Stewart, Carol King, Joni Mitchell, John Denver, Carley Simon, and several others who
I didn't even mention will never be surpassed. We may never hear another folk singer of these levels again in our lifetimes!!! It's such a shame too because they are not getting any younger and many have already passed away. It's nice to go to my Cd case and bring someone back to life anytime I want!!!
Borderstone, you and I could have one good Cd party!!! I just know it!!!I have been
listening to music with my seven year old daughter and she is hooked. She loves GL
and alot of the artists we mentioned above.
She just wrote GL a letter and we put it in the mail on Saturday. She would be so thrilled to get a response. Thanks to this site I no longer feel like an outcast for my taste in music!!! Keep the messages going. It's breathing life in to me every time I log on!!!!

Titan:You know, musically,I would always "live in the '70's". My favorite shows are in re-runs (but it's almost not the same now that I'm older.) From June '70 to June '80 I was in my childhood and everything (despite the opinion of the more prudish out there) was pretty tame & safe compared to today. That is in the field of entertainment. I wouldn't want the bad things about the 70's to return for anything! I just wish I could relive that time over again. I feel there was never a better time to be a kid. Being an adult has it's perks but innocence was bliss. Borderstone, outta here and Alberta Bound! :d

Gordon Lightfoot and Enya would be an interesting combination.

Oma,

A guy at work was teasing me when I told him last year that we were going to see Lightfoot. He then said, as his version of an friendly insult, "you probably like Enya"! He almost fell over when I said, my wife just bought me her latest album. I agree they'd be something on the same stage.

I would venture for an interesting blend of music, lyrics, styles, and vocal textures, the following three male and female artists:

Lightfoot and Tom Rush
Lightfoot and Eric Andersen
Lightfoot and Richie Havens
Lightfoot and Joni Mitchell
Lightfoot and Linda Ronstadt
Lightfoot and Stevie Nicks

BillW, Your wife has good taste!! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

As far as Gordon Lightfoot and duets go...He always sings duets with me in the car!!!! Every day we perform for the other commuters on the tollway. I'm sure all of my fellow commuters can't wait for a nice traffic jam in the Spring (my car windows will be down...the acoustics will be great!), that way they can hear every note!!! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

Wow!!!! Those are some great choices. Yes!!
We can all dream. It would be great to see
something like this happen.
I do have one more. More of a trio.

Gord, myself and Borderstone. Sure to be a sellout!!!

I know this topic's getting long in the tooth but I just thought of 2 more and I can't believe I didn't mention them before!! How could I possibly have forgotten Seals & Crofts or England Dan & John Ford Coley? Because if with America it's like C,S,N & Y...then with the above mentioned, heck, that's like The Eagles! In fact,if Gord ever wants an opening act and wants fans' opinions, then those would be my choices along with Gerry Rafferty and Al Stewart (that's all on the ssame bill!) Kind of like a folk/art Woodstock. Since I never could have gone to the original, this kind of show would be the equal for me. Borderstone, outta here,Alberta Bound and begging for this to come true! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
