Was just wondering if anyone has heard any
news about Gord lately? Hope that he is
doing better every day.

I was thinking that maybe someone who lives nearby could do a driveby and see what he's up to. OK, I'm kidding, no need to start up the old privacy debate. But seriously it would seem like some sort of statement to his fans should be expected by now. No?

I'm surmising that Gordy probably just wants his space--as well as some time to recouperate...after all, he had a pretty serious life-altering/life-threatening thing happen to him.

I just ran across a slightly different version of the news regarding his departure from the hospital:

***************************************
December 13, 2002

His doctors didn’t know if he’d live. And his fans were worried they’d never hear his voice again. But Gordon Lightfoot is not only a troubadour, he’s a fighter. And now the veteran Canadian entertainer has won his biggest battle ever – surviving a condition that threatened his life.

Lightfoot has finally left a Hamilton hospital, more than three months after he took ill last September. But even though the 64-year-old is recovering, this ‘old man’ of music hasn’t come home from the forest just yet. “He's out of the hospital,” confirms longtime manager Barry Harvey. “He's in quite good spirits. He's up and walking around. He's doing really well, considering where he's come from.”

It was the singer’s own condition that helped him survive his battle against internal bleeding from an abdominal blood vessel. “Mr. Lightfoot's physical fitness and personal strength have helped him overcome a life-threatening condition,” praises his physician, Dr. Michael Marccaccio. His family has been swamped with requests about the musician’s prognosis, but “he's requesting his privacy especially with Christmas coming up,” explains Harvey. It’s too soon to say when Lightfoot will return to work. But on the long road to recovery, he’s definitely turned down the Carefree Highway.

"Didn't feel so cold and tired
Stretched out before her fire
Rollin' smokes and drinkin' up her wine
And I remember candlelight
And singing 'til we could not sing no more
Then fallin' warm asleep on Susan's floor"

Thanks for the article and link! I'm so glad that Gordon Lightfoot was in very good shape when he took ill so that he had the strength to fight this thing.

Prayers for his continued recovery...and that he may be feeling well enough to enjoy precious time with his family.

on-susan's-floor,

Thank you so much for your post about Gord,
upon leaving the hospital.

Hope that they really did have a good Holiday season and that Gord continues to
improve. Our prayers go out to his family and friends.

As much as we would love to hear him in again
in person, I would pray first of all that he and his family are happy and that he is doing
what he really wants to do in the future....
whether that be touring or not.

(Incidentally, who wrote "On Susan's Floor"?
The first time that I remember hearing it was on the "Hank (JR) and Friends" album, from perhaps way back in the 70's. Can that be?)
