I ask because earlier this month Walter posted a topic about a hits CD he proposed
the exact title I do not have but I know I am not dreaming because I copied and pasted his words to save for a reply later
this is what I saved on July 9th as a text file:-
"Okay, the title makes the point,so I'll get to it.
If I did a "Best Of",it would go like this.
Disc 1:The Hits>
Sundown-
Wreck Of
Carefree Highway-
If You Could Read
Rainy day People
Circle Is Small
Baby Step Back
Beautiful
Talking In Your Sleep
Race Among The Ruins
Summer Side Of Life
That Same Old Obsession
You Are What I Am
If I Could
Anything For Love.
I'd also include the charted cover versions of GL songs.
Peter Paul and Mary's E.M. Rain
and For Lovin' Me
Spyder Turner's "I Can't Make It Anymore"
Glen Campbell's,"Last Time I Saw Her"
Anne Murray's,"Cotton Jenny" a
and even Stars On 54's,"If You Could read My Mind".
All of these songs were singles and charted on one Billboard chart or another.
So,that's the 1st one but I'll have to do #2 another time bacause I'm out of time! Later!

I have searched the discussion board for the original but all searches on singers names
or even selected text failed to locate this topic nor is there any evidence of it around the relevant dates
So I guess Walter musy have deleted it
-------------------------------------------------
I wanted to reply/comment as follows
Most impressive B/Walter
It to my mind made a nice change from the usual "my favourite Gordy songs are......"
If I may be so bold as to make a minor bit of constructive criticism though.
did you actually add up the running times of your proposed selection of hits?
I say this because one day in the future you no doubt will get your own computer;
most likely with a built-in CD burner and will start making your own CDs.
(albeit with a different set of GL favourites since every Lighthead's choice changes on a daily even hourly basis.
You will then find that the standard CD-Recordable blank discs will in fact hold 80 minutes of music.
My first impression on looking at your listing was that you had possibly seriously busted the limit!!
But as I am planning on making a few CDs for my own pleasure such as "Songbook Discs 5 and 6 or Gord's Gold III and IV. With the other great songs so far omitted from the Songbook box set; GG1; GG2; Complete Greatest Hits; and Classic Master
(and the other few hundred United Artists hits compilations)
I have devised a simple spreadsheet using an old DOS-based programme to rapidly check the total running time of any selection.
Note that I did also find on one site a Microsoft Access spreadfsheet to do just that but have now mislaid it
Much to my surprise I totalled your list at 73 Minutes 26 seconds of which the GL tracks make up 55mins 30secs.
I have converted the text file that my programme produced to HTML and put it on my web site
at:- http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/borderstone
You might therefore like to reconsider your initial effort to make use of the full 80 minutes
If and when you reply you might also explain what happenned to your threatened #2 CD??

He deletes his topics often which is one of the reasons why I rarely respond to his posts anymore. I know, must sound funny coming from a guy who once deleted all his posts. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

You'll have to pardon my deleting John. Sometimes I have the patience of Ghandi and then there are times when it's a guy with the TV remote. I think the topic sat there for about 2 weeks without a reply,so I figured there was no interest in the subject. I would not have deleted it if there were. I know I said in the past I would not do that but I truly thought no one had an opinion. I guess I should try to remember that we do have lives outside and sometimes I may not get a reply right away. I think I forgot that as I watched the topic go lower on the list. Any replies on this new thread are welcome and I apologize for my impatience. By the way,I did also delete my Anciet Mariner thread because the only replies I had been receiving were about my spelling and grammer. Hey,nobody's perfect! Those two things were kind of off that day because it was the last message I posted before time ran out. Overall,I was not getting the kind of answers I had hoped for. ..and Watchman I have not deleted a message for quite some time now. You gave me good reason to though. Spelling and grammer are important but you made it the subject of my thread instead of what I intended. I had a right to delete it. Well, enough about that. I'll catch you guys later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

John,CD #2 would have been my favorites from the 60's & 70's,#3 80s & 90s fav's and #4 Gord's love songs. No,I didn't think of time limits because I didn't even know CD's had them. I knew you could fit up to 70 mins. from what they state on the ad for,"The Ultimate 70s Collection on TV. I also don't know anything about CD "burning". Right now I'm kind of starting a taped form on cassettes that are 120 mins. each. I do have the patience for that but little time when I work. I hope that answers all your q's. Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

I made a tape once that had nothing but Gord's "water songs" or ship songs. I also have what I call my "Supertape" that has my favs on it. It is a super long tape 90 min. and it still wasn't long enough.

To quote a line from a favorite movie "You're scary, you know that? Brilliant . . . but scary."

I have no clue what you've just said, and only the vaguest as to what you've done, but I recognize genuis when it confounds me.
