Nice Char! Thanks for posting that. Who is Franklin the Turtle, and could he really beat up Superman? Would he want to? Is this turtle evil?
when the july 1 issue comes out, a link (pretty please) to the results would be great!! (hint)

Franklin is a turtle on PSB kids. Bruce Cockburn sings the title song.
so, I guess franklin isn't evil? or inclined to kick superman's butt? you didn't answer the really important questions..is franklin secretly evil?

Never evil, wonderful and kind.

Just the song is evil as all songs for kids shows seep into your brain never to evaporate...thankfully it IS Bruce Cockburn's voice tho!
Franklin is as charming as a turtle can get!
lol
I'll post the link.

Ack! I must be doing something wrong - all I get is a picture of the Bombardier Ski-doo circa 1958 as essentially Canadian. No Gord. Sniff, sob.

oh sorry Annie - the newspaper has the pic - it's not on-line...
sorry!
It's the great pic of him standing with his geetar standing up in front of him-two hands on the top and he's wearing his black leather jacket and black pants. His head is tilted a bit.

Please Char this must be one of those occasions where displaying the picture would be 100% justified. We know that you are a dab hand (whatever that means!!) at using your scanner
So please scan it, then if you do not wish to cause a problem by displaying it upload it to http://www.imageshack.us/
where you will be presented with a selection of links (8 I think) the very last one (at least) shows its true address (starting http of course, so if you simply post that here those who wish to see it can equally simply click what will appear as a hyperlink.OR try the thumbnail link that is also provided.

I'm sure you've all seen it before -
here's the relevant pic: I love this 'attitude" he has...
the pic in the paper is just his image/silhouette-no dark background and is cut off at a lower point than this photo-it's around the 7th fret I think?

That IS one of his better pictures...I'm hoping he makes the list in music...he is essential Canada, isn't he? Spent his whole career extolling the beauty of Canadian countryside and lifestyle, as well as not selling out the to the American 'star-making machine'...go Gordie...

Great Char
No I do not think I ever saw the full sized version of that picture before
A very useful find thank you
I thought that this would be a useful example of using smaller images and thumbnails so, would everybody please bear with me a moment, (In view of the problems with dial-up-downloading I am using only small files to display as necessaryto make my points)
Char you obviously sussed out the original that you linked to was way too large to show here as it is
1441 by 1801 pixels and the file size is a wapping 730,088 bytes
However I did suggest that if you had scanned it you could consider either the link to the uploaded picture file or use the imageshack thumbnail link.
It looks like you might have saved the picture instead from your quoted web location then uploaded it
and then displayed just the small thumbnail which on your upload is at:-
http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/7158/gordonlightfoot14xd.th.jpg
http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/7158/gordonlightfoot14xd.th.jpg
your displayed thumbnail is as the imageshack added on text shows presumably that you uploaded a reduced size file that was only
27KB and is only 512 by 640 pixels
Now I have a suspicion that good pupil that you are you used photogadget first to make a smaller version of the original so that you could link to it via a thumbnail
Let me test that theory:-
the thumbnail you displayed is actually 122 by 167 pixels
and its file size a mere 3939 bytes
To demonstrate what I was getting at in my posting suggesting that you use your scanner and now in this posting I have saved the full sized file and then uploaded it myself to imageshack. On a dial up that obviously took quite a long time
but I eventually had it full sized at:-
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/796/gordonlightfoot13wm.jpg
which was the last supplied link annotated "Direct link to image"
In fact the third link called "Thumbnail for forums (2)"
should display a much smaller thumbnail of (I checked it by going to "my images")
122 by 167 pixels 3947 bytes
and with an addesss of
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/796/gordonlightfoot13wm.th.jpg
I'll display that here for comparision with what you displayed above
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/796/gordonlightfoot13wm.th.jpg
OK now using the same thumbnail but using the third link code should now display that same thumb as a clickable link to the full sized picture
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/796/gordonlightfoot13wm.th.jpg (http://img189.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gordonlightfoot13wm.jpg)
alternatively I then ventured down what I assumed was your route above
I made two smaller versions using photogadget
and mine came out at:-
1 using the top option "640x 480"
I got a file of 384 by 480 and 29,463 bytes
2 using the second option "800 by 600"
the file was then 480 by 600 and 43002 bytes.
Neither seem to be done the way yours was though so Ieft it at that for now.
OK end of my attempt to fill in the picture so to speak

I went to GOOGLE IMAGES-typed in GORDON LIGHTFOOT. The pic popped up on the first page. I opened it. Then saved it. I then went to image shack and up/downloaded it. the 'resize it' option was checked off. i copied and pasted the Thumbnail for forums link and posted it here.
Don't know what photogadget is.
Figured thumbnail was a good option and the link would be for the bigger picture...Never looked at any numbers/bytes.....
the pic was posted and the link is there....done.

char OK I do carry out a GL google image check quite often but that particular picture had not clicked with me before
I now see a much shorter version at:-
http://www.cmw.net/images/HOF_Gordon_Lightfoot.jpg
which is 1804 by 1482 and 1,280,765 bytes
I apologise about "photogadget" I think It must be one of my as yet unpublished tutorials I have mentioned it in passing at least once
a most useful and easy to use piece of freeware in fact

Char - you're picture is just fine. Thanks !
John - you and I suffer from "overthinkitus" LOL
- I have not even dig'd my Gord-autographed
Old Town Canoe Paddle from 40th b-day - 8
yrs ago I got him to sign it. On the wall
prominently in the part of the house my
wife designates officially as "Lodge
decor" !
And you asked me .oh. 2 months ago!
I have benefited so much from your kind
help, John, I think its just sometimes
life's demands time-wise make excellence
to the "nth" degree not always possible
for me and perhaps others wishing to
excel technically on a PC as you do :)
But, as in John Wayne's great movie from
circa '73 "The Cowboys" - the wonderful
character, the "cookie" in the chuckwagon
said to a wayward plush-chambre version
of a frontier brothel on wheels. -the
completely charming and lovely Madaam
(played by the late, great Colleen
Dewhurst) in charge, when she requested
if the cookie called Charlie Nightlinger
was interested in amorous diversion. He
replied with characteristic aplombe and
panache "Madaam, I have the means, the
maturity, and the inclination,sadly...
-I do not have the...time.
Inherant metaphor of best
possible picture ( or map data, etc,) is
self-explanatory ! I sure love that movie!
Well I do hope this little vignette was fun !
I am not entirely sure why I posted it, I just
enjoy both your posts very much. - Steve

John I have found that I did write a sort of "mini-tutorial" as recently as June 2 in the topic on the PEI-NB Confederation Bridge at:-
http://www.corfid.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=000202;p=#00000 9
I thought I had and tried to find it before replying to your denial of all knowledge of photogadget but I used the only 40% efficient corfid search engine yesterday and it failed to find it.Using google, since google indexes all of corfid, is often more reliable!!
Anyway I still intend witing an overall tutorial on manipulating pictures (mainly cropping and/or resizing) and with suggestions for some great free programmes
