Every time I hear this song now, it makes me sad. Especially to think about how they've ripped up the tracks that brought the west into Confederation and made us a country. It seems like a sacrilege. The men who died blasting a route through the Rockies... Can you even travel from coast to coast on the railway in Canada any more? Visited Van Horne's summer home near St. Andrew's, NB, a few summers ago, and could almost feel the ghost of the dejected railway baron. Check out Lightfoot performs Railroad Trilogy 1970 (if you haven't already seen it).
