Well Gord I well admit that my first reaction was that we needed yet another forum as much as a hole in the head
being as how there are already messages to read at THE newsgroup alt.music.lightfoot. this board and at least 4 Yahoo groups but curiuosity got the better of me so I went to look. I then found that obviously it is so set up that only by actually registering can you glean anything of interest such as are there any members (a smattering so far)and any messages to read yet (no only Gord's initial announcement). So I registered (not using my main e-mail account for fear of getting even more offers to enlarge my anatomy/get another degree/get stuffed/see ounspeakable acts between young ladies and horses/support the Nigerian economy whatever. Now I don't know what sort of obviously half-vast outfit your forum's supplier bbboy.net is Gord but I was not best pleased to find no e-mail from them as promised telling me my password, Well it did eventually turn up at least 20 minutes later then the password I discovered contained capital (upper case)letters and their password system is I then found is case-sensitive
So if at first you don't succeed suck eggs

I wasn't expecting to please everyone, so I am sorry if you feel that way. Decided to create it to compliment what is out here not as a competition.

If it makes you feel anybetter I had to wait 3 hrs to get permission to create the board.

Cheers.

Geez, it took about five seconds to receive my password. And the e-mail clearly states that the password is case sensitive.

This really should be all done on my own board Char I agree, sorry for this rambling thread.... but anyway if you two could tell me what user name you registered under that would help me in solving this.

OKay I just had someone from BBnet Admin join my board with no problem and left me a message. The only thing I can suggest is to re register under a different name. I can't add you manually because neither of you appear in my member list in my admin control.

Gord,
I just visited your message board but I still can't see how by leaving a message could result in me getting the No Hotel MP3. That said, I am not too familiar with the workings of message boards http://www.corfid.com/ubb/confused.gif

Re the John Fowles post.
If you don't like it there, John, then don't go there. But please let others decide where and when they choose to chat.

Al,
You must have the newsgroup confused with one of the Lightfoot Yahoo lists. The newsgroup messages don't come through your inbox. You have to literally go to the newsgroup, either through a newsreader like Google, or by subscribing to the newsgroup through Outlook Express or some other mail program. Even if you use a mail program, it still doesn't come through your inbox.
With Yahoo groups, you can choose to read it at the site, receive all messages in one daily digest, or receive them individually. And I agree with the fact that 200 e-mails a day can drive a person over the edge!

John Fowles,

Also John, my first reaction to your weekly chat posts were that we need your weekly low-downs on your little chat room like we "need another hole-in-the-head". Curiosity also got the best of me and I found the same nonsense in the chat room that I was getting in all of those bloody emails.
Gord, keep doing what you do and keep up the good work. I know that websites, forums etc. are new to you and you are teaching yourself how do to all of it. Don't let some of these jealous, spoiled, ill-mannered adults ruin what you want to do.

Well, first of all, the deal with the chatroom is... many of us have met in person, so it tends to get a little over friendly. As far as the flirting goes, I really don't see it happening. It may seem like flirting to someone who hasn't met the other members, but in reality, everyone is just having fun. You should see how we act in person!
There's no way 100% of the people can talk about Lightfoot 100% of the time. It gets a little boring, because most of us have done that over and over and over. However, I'm sure if a new person has a question, and it's something the regular chat members can answer, if they ask the question they'll get a serious answer.
And I've met John several times. He's far from spoiled and ill mannered. I've had several nice conversations with him, and he gave me a lot of support when Dad died. I'll always appreciate that.

Al, I really think John was trying to be funny. He does have a sense of humor, believe it or not. You shouldn't jump down his throat unless you know what you're talking about.

Hi everyone,

Been offline with a "cold" but I'm glad to see you're all getting into 2003 with a bang. The thing that I like most about any of this Lighthead stuff is reading concert reviews within days of the concert by real people who were there and paid good money and don't mind that he's older than he was when he was younger or that he's more sober now than when he was drunker! And as the reviews got closer to the date that my tickets were for it got better and better, getting a preview of what sort of gig to expect and then the day itself, oh happy days! Here's a wish that we see him on tour again and have something new to chat about.

But I digress: Al, I'm glad to see you've stopped beating around the bush and are telling people what you really think, LOL. I
almost laughed Diet Coke all over the monitor catching up around corfid.

Peace all,

Bill http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'm not sure why " The Watchman's Gone" I haven't seen him at my board since he joined either, I dunno. As I said at my own board, it wasn't created to be in direct competition with this board.

This board has many features that I simply will not be able to replicate. Members here are welcome to drop by my board if they wish, there is no mandatory requirement to do so.

As I've said on this board before to another who was leaving:

"We'll keep the light on for you"

Love him or hate him TheWatchman added some spice to this stew. If you didn't like the flavor I'm sure you're happy to see him go. But a diversity of viewpoints is what makes a discussion a discussion. And his departure will diminish the depth of some of them. I will miss his point and counterpoint style and his refusal to drop something he really believed in.

Things are not always as they seem. Al (NOT Alan) is probably just out on the town washing the bullshit down for a pre-determined length of time unbeknownst to us. He's always been a prolific editor of his own posts. He merely went a bit further in editing this time than he has done in the past. It's as likely as not that he'll be back.
Rebecca
P.S. All of you and God are my witnesses that I made not even a single insinuation about the Watchman's intelligence in any edition of this post.

Yes it had appeared that "carertaker" Al had simply deleted all his postings and intended to just disappear. But one day last week while trying to find my very first posting to rebut the insinuation that he had made that I was only here to promote the Friday Chat Room and I stumbled on one of his postings that he obviously has so far missed. It is his "testforum" posting dated 24 sept 2002 in reply to the first posting by "restless" on the subject:-"pic test". In some trepidation and while looking warily over my shoulder I clicked the "send e-mail" icon whereupon I was rewarded with the information that the email address for TheWatchman is: iroczpost@yahoo.com. Think about it and it might tell you something although I had been led to believe that his more likely e-mail address would have been mysogenist@yahoo.com
Anyway and despite having been one of his victims I did not personally get too upset previously by his postings so yes I'm with BillW and "brink". The Watchman should most certainly resume his postings and thereby add some spice to our lives again!!
Finally a small reminder that there is a wealth of links to Lightfoot web sites in my "webring" at:- http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfoot
