I missed this one a while back, but it's such a great topic, I want to take a stab at it. In my response, I will assume that Gord is playing alone, without the band, and that the setting is a small coffee house in a seaside town in Nova Scotia, with an audience of about 10 (Lightfoot fans all). I am going to omit any song I've heard in concert (including Beautiful, Christian Island and SFAWN, each of which otherwise would be on my list), because I'm picturing this as an intimate setting and time to hear some rarities. In this setting, the mood is set by the smell of the coffee, the sound of the waves and the crackle of the fireplace.

I have a feeling that Gord won't be coming so we will have plenty of food. We are going to take a portable CD player with plenty of Gordon Lightfoot CD's. I promise that if a stranger shows up at our door, and is willing to carry fire wood for food and music- we will cheerfully take you in, Feed you and listen to Gord!!!!!!

You know Lavender this 5 songs would be hard to limit. when I go back and review any of Gord's music it is hard not to change my list... And I thought my topic on the memory first was hard, ha! This is like the indecisive child in me that keeps rearranging all of the songs. Today feels like a day of protest, spring is not coming quickly enough, so let's protest.
What are Gord's greatest protest songs?

This one ain,t as tough as "list your favorite song",but it gives you a little playing space. They,d go about like this:
1)Minstrel of the Dawn
2)Knotty Pine
3)Ghosts of Cape Horn
4)Affair on 8th Avenue
5)All the Lovely Ladies
Now,if it were Gordy AND the Lightfoot Band, the list would read different. This list is just to hear Gord and his guitar.jack beanstalk

This is rather difficult. I will go with two weeks worth, i.e., first five in the first week and another five in the second:
Affair on 8th Avenue
Home from the Forest
If Children Had Wings
Second Cup of Coffee
Bitter Green
and for the 2nd week:
A Minor Ballad
That Same Old Obsession
Lazy Morning
Protocol
I'm Not Supposed to Care
and if there are substitutions:
Shadows
In My Fashion
A Lesson In Love
10 Degrees and Getting Colder
It's Worth Believin'

The first song I ever heard by Gord was in the late 1960's. that one is First. To choose 5 is tough. Even 25 could be tough. Here goes:

4. Song for a Winters night
5. Mother of a Miner's child

Yes, difficult to pick 5 without revising it every few minutes.
How about this then.
If you could only have one album/cd, which would you pick?

Borderstone - "Little 'Ol Message Maker Me!" :)
If Gord were to ask me what songs he could sing for me, here is my initial response, however if he asked me again in an hour it more than likely would change. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif
1) High & Dry
2) Seven Island Suite
3) Summer Side Of Life
4) The House You Live In
5) The Watchman's Gone
And for Gwen who inquired about the 5 best protest songs ... well what about:
1) Summer Side Of Life
2) Black Day In July
3) Patriot's Dream
4) Protocol
5) Miguel -okay, so I couldn't think of any more http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif
