Bend in the Water 12 I'd Do It Again 8

Hey everyone. "Bend in the Water" is the winner of Showdown #19. It is a real toe tapper. I think "Cold on the Shoulder" is one of the last albums I added to my collection. I remember really enjoying the songs on the album. And because BIW is the first song, it gets the album off to a great start.

Have you ever longed for a loved one you've left behind? If you listen to Gord's lyrics, you know that he has a whole trail of broken hearts left behind him. Sometimes he expresses his desire to return to a special loved one he's left behind. For example in Alberta Bound, that's the "reason" he's "Alberta Bound." Perhaps on his trip from Toronto to Alberta, he was taking the steel rail. Here are two songs about a yearning to return to a love left behind. Which one do you like better?

Alberta Bound

or

Steel Rail Blues

Let the battle begin.

What a tough choice. I love both songs. I guess I'd have to give the edge to Steel Rail Blues.

'Alberta Bound' - for lots of sentimental reasons
but I love both songs.

Likewise, you gotta love em' both. Depends on what the mood of the day is. Today I'm going to say "Steel Rail Blues"...just for the "woooo-hoooo" bits.

Cheers to all!

DQ Don says a whisker...I say "Steel Rail Blues" by a long shot! The whole song is perfect in representing what Minstrel Man talked about in his intro. I actually feel sorry for "the lonesome boy,who missed the train last night",at the end of the song. :)

I like "A.B." but it's too "country" for me to "really" get into it. Might help if I was from Canada,I guess.

I played "Steel R. Blues"last nite at my happy hr. gig without the capo!(C)Wife wants me to sing more comfortably...hates when I sound like Dylan.
Sorry I wrote so much...Steel Rail Blues!
I'm a sucker for TRAIN SONGS!

Great songs both.

When driving north on I-85 from Durham and Chapel Hill, NC, one passes the town of Alberta, Virginia. It has a large water tower with "ALBERTA" written on it. I'd always either play or sing AB while approaching that water tower, and the song is one of my faves.

Albert Bound.
