A fairly frequent topic here has been reports of hearing GL on radio across the States
I have just been amazed yes startled actually whilst checking out "links" to a youtube video to discover:-
http://www.yes.com
a site headed
"Find songs that have played within the past 7 days on the nation's top 2,600 radio stations, CMT, FUSE, MTV, and VH-1. Rate currently playing songs right now to influence charts & chat with other listeners."
where if you search for GL in the box alongside the YES this page opens
http://yes.com/artist/Gordon%20Lightfoot
"Artist View
These are the stations that recently played songs by Gordon Lightfoot. The list is updated in real time so you will see stations as they air Gordon Lightfoot's songs"
And you get a list showing which GL songs have recently like today even been played on US radio stations you will get a
page headed
Gordon Lightfoot history
Playback history and ranks from across the nation
http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfoot/images/YES_GL_PLAYINGS.jpg
which currently shows that Sundown has been played no less than 8 times today already on radio stations like
WROR Boston WSRV Atlanta,KSNE Las Vegas
Fascinating stuff!!!

I think there is a more appropriate thread I could have put this under, but it was taking too long to find it so here goes. I heard - brace yourself - Summer Side of Life on the overhead at Borders today. I couldn't believe it. It was the first time I have ever heard that song played in public. I was shushing my kids so I could confirm - I was thrilled.

I heard it once on the radio while at an antique shop in upstate NY. I almost fell over, I've never heard it before or since on the radio!
I also heard Pride of Man on satellite radio last week.

Yes Ann you did
I had noticed you sitting quietly and lonelily by yourself near our table in McVeighs Pub and made a point of talking to you when you explained why you chose your moniker.I think I told you that Melissa Joe from Austin TX who posts here very occasionalluy is also a Mandolinist, (she entertained us on it at Valerie Magees house in Saratoga Springs after one of the Caffe Lena concerts probably the 2003 one
I am replying now to my thread because I have just checked a hotmail account that I rarely check and found several emails from last April from Pandora radio so I must have registered with them using that email account.
One old email invited me to listen to what is now playing on Gordon Lightfoot radio:-
(it was Song For A Winter's Night from the Songbook box set)
there was a menu button
one item of which was
"why was this song selected"
I very much liked the answer:-

(I couldn't have said it better myself
even if I am unsure what
"a vocal-centric Aeshthetic" is but it sure sounds appropriate for our Jongleur)
(a word used by the otherTJ in the description to one of his vistories)

Yeah, I heard that too on XM folk station (Folk Village they call it) and I couldn't believe it. I got a free 3 month trial with the car but I don't think it's worth $12.00 a month to keep it. I have all the Lightfoot I need on my iPod and the car has a jack for it.
Bill :)
neat stuff, Bill...so for 3 months you will be one of the folk Village People:)
wonder if that's similar to the Folk Roots audio channel we (char, myself and other canucks with digi-tv feed...last I looked it was an extra $2.99 for all the galaxie channels) ...I see that one can get this over the internet now:
http://www.galaxie.ca/internet/en/channel_galaxieplus.html#2
I've never heard of the French DJ, but lots of Lightfoot plus a whack of folk indy artists to be heard
