View Full Version : Meeting Gord Lightfoot

I was just reading the posts about how it's possible to meet Gord Lightfoot. I've done it a few times and was invited back stage by Terry Clements once!

98% of people aren't going to bother waiting around the backstage door after the concert as it will be 10:30-11:00 pm by the time the guys emerge.

As long as you are polite and respectable and there isn't a throng of people, you will get in to see him. ( Well in theory anyway :) )

However in my case, it may or may not be easier because my name is Gord as well, the guys in the band find that an easy name to remember.

I was going to get my APPT cd signed after an outdoor concert in '01 but my daughter fell asleep on the grass. I will have to remind her of that when she gets older!

Yeah Gord is personable. I met him a few year back after a concert. We chatted several minutes. I talked with Terry and Rick for about an hour and 1/2 before Gord came out. Terry drank the rest of my bottle of wine. Gord often comes out to the line of people waiting to get in prior to concerts too.

I met Gordon many times a few year back, just didn't realize it was him. It would be fun to see if he remembers.....

It's not so hard when you haven't seen them in a long, long time. He was also pretty busy. It wasn't until I got the Harmony CD that I recognized him. I just know he was awfully sweet.

huh? Do you mean you saw him several times and didn't know who he was? I thought you meant that you actually met him and shook his hand or something because you said he was so sweet.

Hi Watchman,
Yes, I did meet him, four times. We just chatted, never shared last names - not important to me. I knew his name was Gordon. I've enjoyed his music for many years. Found this website, got his latest CD and was pleasantly surprised to see him!
Very Sweet!!

Humphry's by the Bay:

Fine venue. Fine shows. I've always enjoyed the outdoor setting. Miss that since they put the lid on Universal Amphitheater, too.

Terry is indeed a good time rep to those of us hangin' by the stage door. Great guy. Big Barry, too (really.)

Gord stopped the booze in '82. It took me till '87. He and a mutual thickeheaded friend finally turned me around. Times are sweeter now.

Still . . . wasn't that a time

I never met Gord but I wrote him a note saying how much I love his music and left on the stage (This was at Majestic Theater in North Tonawanda, NY) and he read it.

didn't mean to quote, but I've met Gord a bunch over the past 21 years of my life (my whole life). He's an awesome man and he's always been very nice to me. I love the way you say Big Barry....that's so funny. He's my Big Dad he's the best in the world and treats Gord so good.

Hi Sarah, we're glad Big Barry treats Gord so good! I saw you back stage, and Terry's girls as well as Little Barry's older son.....and some of Gord's kids too! it was quite the scene back there and everyone was having a great time.
I'm just east of you guys in Whitby! Maybe we'll meet up at Mariposa if you're there. It would be nice to meet you.

I think with that post by Sarah that we now have an "official" online connection to GL even though GL himself is not online. Welcome to the forum Sarah ( that almost sounds like a Fleetwood Mac song :D )

I would have loved to be in Toronto this last week but as things go there would have been no way possible for me to show up as I didn't have Massey tickets from 2002.

My name is indeed Gord, Sarah and just like GL I am Gord Jr, my dad's name is also Gord.

Hope to hear more from you here on the forum

I might be going to the July 10th show. It's just nice to get together and see everyone again. Now don't get me wrong, i don't talk to GL on the phone or anything just at the concerts or when he calls. I will try to keep up on the forum, but i am very busy with my job, so i'll talk to ya soon. if not maybe i'll see ya at the concert!!!!

I had my daughter with me on Saturday. What a thrill for her - great seats, backstage pass.....I had to wait 30 years....she's 17.
LOL
You should have made yourself known! Lots of folks were wondering where/who you were!!!!

Sarah,

Big Barry is Big Daddy? Big Balboa Smile here!

Across the yrs, I've brought my 3 sons to see Gord (my mom as well,) My sons are in their 30's and Mama's 88. And they've all had the pleasure of your dad's gentle charm.

As have I.

As pleasant a thought to me as getting to know Gord. A blessed man. You picked a good daddy.
