I've been checking the CBC archive site periodically to check for anything new--and it's finally there--an on-line video interview!

Great news "NS" thanks for the update! Gord looks a lot better now. He is so enthusiastic about returning to Massey Hall! I'm sure he will make it there soon. I think I will wait outside tomorrow and start the line...lol

Thanks for the heads up, I didn't know that was there. He really sounds relaxed and very fit. His voice was very strong and sounded like the old times. Thanks.

Well Not All Right. I am very happy for the four of you who have been able to see this new addition, But I am not best pleased to find that I am the fall guy this time with a computer problem. All is well while it allegedly connects to media then it tries to buffer and it reaches 97% bufferred then I get a quixotic message "error downloading codec" most helpful and elucidating I'm sure. Anybody else get this result. Looks like I'll just have to try to grab the actual video file as was done when the archives were first discovered. Any ideas anyone??

John,
Not to turn this into geekspeak--I recommend Windows XP and Windows Media Player 9.(the player you can download free) If you have a decent amount of RAM and a broadband connection it works like a charm....

I recommend downloading it for offline viewing. It's easy:

1. Download GetAsfStream http://www.vector.co.jp/download/file/win95/net/ff329976.html
Note: The page is in Japanese but the program is in English. Open this page and the program will automatically start to download.

2. Install GetAsfStream by double-clicking.

3. Go to the CBC page http://archives.cbc.ca/IDC-1-68-743-8349/arts_entertainment/gordon_lightfoot/clip12
Note: right click on the player window and copy the URL location

4. Run GetAsfStream and paste the URL into the box labeled "URL". Click EXEC. The program does the rest. Windows Media Player will open momentarily so that GetAsfStream can analyze the webstream, but after it stops you can close media player. If for some reason the download stops, click EXEC again, and then "Yes" and the download will resume.

5. Enjoy.
