I didn't even know Gordon Lightfoot until I suddenly heard 'If I could read your mind love' last year. Where have I been? I took a year to find out who was singing this amazing song...and now I know. The guts of life in three or four minutes flat. Discography here I come...

Great!!! And Welcome!!! I'm so glad you
like 'If You Could Read My Mind'-and let me tell you something. He has LOTS more great
music!!! Believe me when I say, "You have only scratched the surface" And just a year ago? I have been a fan for almost thirty years and am still finding Lightfoot's music
to be as enjoyable as ever. You are in for such a treat. Have fun!!

My dad had "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald" downloaded on Napster about 2 1/2 to 3 years ago and it's eerie tune was very catchy. But a few months later he had it taken off but he told me he had a CD with that song on it but it was a different version. I listened to it and didn't like it all that much but it got to sounding better and I would discover other GL songs on there to.
(When I first heard Christian Island, before he started singing for a split second I thought it was "He Went To Paris" but it wasn't.)

Dear,Deer! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Not only did you discover a great song, you discovered Gordon Lightfoot's 1st top 40 American hit from 1970/71! I was 3 then! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/eek.gif Good luck at the discography, there's a bunch! In the last year myself I went out and acquired each & every GL record released. (No bootlegs.) If you go out looking for them, they're all available on CD somewhere. Last but not least, welcome to the forum and welcome to the show! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

DMD3, you not only like Lightfoot, but Buffett, too? - and one of his songs that is not as familiar as others, to boot?!?!? He Went To Paris is one of my favorites. You continue to impress and amaze me with your musical taste http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

Jimmy Buffet is pretty good but that's pretty much the only song I know of. I've heard the song "Yes I am a pirate, 200 years too late" but I'm not overly fond of that song.
Not that I wouldn't like to hear more of his songs, but my dads only got 1 CD and I wouldn't know where it is. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

DMD try Cheeseburger in Paradise and Margaritaville (sp?). They are great songs. I can't imagine Gord singing one of these.

Oma, I do not know which album 'Come Monday' first appeared on, however a good Buffett CD to get is 'All The Great Hits' it has, Come Monday, Margaritaville, Changes in Latitudes Changes in Attitudes, He Went To Paris etc. on. A track I particularly like is 'Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfants' A song Jimmy wrote some time ago for the 'International year of the child'.

I have several of his albums, and some tracks are not as listenable as Gordons, IMHO.

They are like the 'Curate's egg', good in parts.

Jimmy Buffett, coincidently,is in the national pop top 40 right now in a duet with Alan Jackson. I forget the name of the song but it's Buffett's 1st top 40 hit in about 22 years! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/eek.gif Thank you Alan Jackson. Maybe Gord could team with someoneand have the same result? Never know! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif
P.S.-The LP that has,"Come Monday" is,"Livin' and Dyin' In 3/4 Time" or just buy a "best of" CD.

"it's five o' clock somewhere" was one of my favorite JB songs, now with Alan and Jimmy singing it it's even cooler!

Allen also did pretty well with Margaritaville, featuring Jimmy B.I actually like Allens version better than J.B.'s.
