Thanks for playing! Old Dan's Records the Gord classic takes the first showdown 12-2 over Uncle Toad Said. Here is showdown #2, two songs of regret about relationships that have "gone away." They are reflective and express a desire for something lost.

If You Could Read My Mind

or

Harmony

Which one do you enjoy the most?

If You Could Read My Mind...one of the best songs ever written.

Harmony . . .

Most likely because I haven't been playing it on stage for 30+yrs running. Gord lost count probably around "later that same year." It's become Gord's "Proud Mary" - both excellent Songs and Records (difference there, btw) And, far superior to becoming Gord's "My Ding-a-ling")

But, Harmony . . . there's a Muse there butterflitting about, staying just ever-so-barely beyond touch, like the teasing cat.

Yet, the touch . . . the touch will come.

The Rez

. . . and falling warm asleep On Susan's Floor

IYCRMM.

I know it's one of Gord's calling cards, but the song weaves a story that really grabs my heart. When the song first came out, I wasn't quite old enough to understand about love and romance, but something in the song still touched me as a child and I can't explain why.

IYCRMM

Though if you had put that against Inspiration Lady, it'd be a tougher choice. I'd still probably go with IYCRMM.

Harmony is a great song, but I gotta go with IYCRMM. It was also the first record I ever bought.

IYCRMM-doesn't the pain get to you every time you hear it, even though you've heard it a thousand times?

Are you kidding me?

If You Can Read My Mind is an eternal classic.

Harmony is not even very interesting sing-song. If anyone other than Gord was singing it, I'd hate it.

IYCRMM, in a landslide.
