I have always wondered did Gord ever record any Christmas material? How nice it would be if he would record one I'll tell you. By the way I don't know whether this is true but I did hear sometime ago that Gord wass very ill and not performing, is this true and if so if he feeling a lot better now?I have always wanted to write to him and I know he lives somewhere here in Canada doesn't he? Sincerely, Maheen.

Gord lives in Toronto.
He took ill in Sept.2002 and after numerous surgeries and recoveries he had his first full concerts in Hamilton a couple of weekends ago. They were dedication/fundraisers for the hospital in Hamilton where his life was saved.
Inspirational, miraculous and emotional! He was in great voice and spirit and looked fab.

I always thought 'Song for a Winter's Night' would fit well on any Christmas compilation...also, I have a recording somewhere of Gordon singing 'Auld Lang Syne', circa 1993.

I thought the "Auld Lang Syne" was to ring out the old millenium, which would make it later than 1993. Gord's was to be the last voice heard in the old and the first heard in the new - for CBC, IIRC?

yeah, and CBC recorded him doing that about a week prior, pretending it was new year's with a kiss from Luba Goy, etc...you know how tv is http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif hmmm, i never dug that blue tux much or backdrop but nice job Gord, i still play it for kicks on Jan 1 http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif
maybe there is a 93 recording, he's probably been singing that since the 1940's, lol
btw, when is A+E going to have Gord do a Live by Request? (although it will be hard to top the MMM Canuck version performances, but that sound mix could be bettered) the well must be running dry if they are now onto that Williams gal, eh?
or how about an Austin City Limits? come on

It was actually the ringing in the first day of the last year of the old millenium (thus the end of the 20th century i.e. on 1 January 1999). In retrospect I guess that way the producers avoided the then raging argument of whether the new millenium/21st century would start on January 1st 2000(incorrect )
or 1 January 2001 (mathematicaly and unimpeachably correct)
By the way i understand that Maheen being visually impaired is unable to see and appreciate Jimmy Jones' sterling efforts to devise s fake GL Christmas album amongst other hilarious creations.I'll have to transcribe the song titles and assorted duetting artists for Maheen

I was just guessing 1993, by the timber of his voice...I am sure it could have been recorded later.

Hi (/seahawk11)
Or is it Tony as I noted you recently signed off in another topic when I checked your profile and found that like Brink and
"colorado sue" who posts here you are a resident otf that colo(u)rful mountain state!!***
For a moment there I thought you were insinuating that Gord's voice was wooden. For the benefit of myself and any other Brit
or Canadian reader who is similarly confused I surmise that Tony meant the timbre of Gord's voice!!
*** last year I suggested to brink and was trying to get her to organise a Colorado fan gathering as there are quite a few of you there, including now Valerie Magee so you should make contact with Brink or vice vers

I'm glad to hear that Gord is doing a lot better now and I am sure that he really must have been touched by this beautiful concert a few weekends ago. I truly hope I can write to him someteime for I don't think there are many 20 year olds out there who appreciates his music and the old time country legends. You all are such great people I am so blessed to be a part of this forum!
God bless and hope you are all getting ready for the holiday season! Your friend, Maheen.

Maheen, tell us a little bit about how you discovered Gord's music. A lot of 20 year olds have never heard of him, and it's such a shame, because they are missing out on some very beautiful music.

Perhaps, "Whisper's of The North", might also
be a candidate for a Christmas compilation,
or a least for the winter season.
