View Full Version : How About if We Come up With a Gift of Some Kind for me to Present to Gord?

Sheryl Klein

I'll be seeing him at a very small dinner theater venue in Agoura Hills, California in late April. I was thinking... rather than just me giving him something (HEY - get your minds out of the gutter!!), what about if we all come up with an idea? I was thinking first... maybe a kind of album with our picture on each page and our personal statement or story for Gord? I've read so many wonderful "dedications" to him in one of these threads and it's a sure bet he probably doesn't read them, that this way, he can peruse these during his free time -- and I bet you he will. It'll be something he'll, hopefully, treasure. Either that or a cool Hawaiian shirt. What size does he wear? I was thinking of getting him one anyway. I am guessing medium...

Sorry SK, I can't think of a thing - my mind is still in the gutter.

I think after seeing him in Hamilton in his new duds that Gord is going to be sporting a whole new look from now on. He looked elegant & fabulous. Dress shirt/vest/classic dress pants and leather shoes-mmm mmm - he looked quite dapper!

No problem -- and did you notice, that it was ME who first had the wicked thoughts?? So, if we're not going with a Hawaiian shirt, perhaps some polka-dotted boxers? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif

Sheryl,I think it's an awesome idea! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

Last year,I was elected to gert him a birthday card and sign it on behalf of all of us,so I think it's even better to give him something with just as much (if not more)meaning.

I guess one the pictures to start with is the one I put up here back in March and I think Bill W. put his here as well,on the same thread. I'll put that topic up to the top so it's easy to fimd! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

You are brilliant! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif

(Could you imagine Gord attempting "Stayin' Alive". ?? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/eek.gif )

Borderstone, I almost coughed up a hairball laughing at your reply! No -- I could NOT imagine Gord doing Saturday Night Fever!! Heaven forbid! And, yes, Violet, we'll take the REAL you -- how does that lyric of Gord's go... something about why change the original?? So, whoever would like to contribute a picture of themself and some words about what Gord and his music mean to them, you can e-mail it to me: Sheryl97@sbcglobal.net and I'll happily put together a nice album for him and even MORE happily present it to him!! O.K., so no Hawaiian shirt -- how about a nice vest? What do you all think? Oh, and who knows when he'll be at Massey Hall?

Ahhhhhh, it was a time and a place all to it's own where that white suit belonged. But I still kinds like that cover the best. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif He was looking good and on his game and it showed in those photos.

I have a video clip of a certain person in the LA area that I'm sure I could get a very amusing still shot from. Would you like that for your scrap book?

Ahem. I hate Outlook, I just want that known up front Sheryl. I attached a photo to an email and I thought I put it in the correct folder to save it and not send it while I figured out what I wanted to say. Apparently I was mistaken. So you should have a photo with no text that I didn't mean to send in your in box. As soon as I finish transfering all my Outlook info to Foxfire and disappearing Outlook from my life, I'll sit down and figure out what to say and email that to you. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hi John, I did a search to come up with a picture of Robert Wagner (the actor) who played Prince Valiant in the 1954 movie, and came up with this page. It is the cover of the video for sale. Here's the link: http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/6302098440/702-7768046-2326463

Oh even better. I sent it and you never got it. Really hate Outlook. I'll try this all some other day. I think all that horizontal snow did something to my brain.

No comment on the dating service. Now a date with Gordon - whole nother concept - sighhhh . . . . . .

Hey Sheryl! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif Sorry set your "hair" on end!! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

The line you were quoting by the way is from the song,"Romance":"They say that people that don't change, why rearrange...the original?" From the Salute LP of course! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif
_____________________________________________

Gordon's,"Stayin' Alive"!:
"Well you can tell by the way I sing about boats,I'm a sailin' man,so please take notes!"
"Yarmouth,Fitzgerald & Marie Christine,I sing about them because I think it's keen!"

"Now baby it's alright,and that's okay...
I'll also sing about Don Quix-o-te!"
"..and you can try to understand,UA Records affecting this man!"

"Wheather you're American,Canadian or Hungarian we're Stayin' Alive,stayin' alive!"
"Acoustic music's what I'm makin' now that my soul has reawakened and I'm
stayin' alive,stayin' alive!"

I'm interested, just not terribly computer literate. What do I need to do??
(By the way, ladies: I found an old box in the attic today when I was putting away Christmas decorations. In it were three Gordon Lightfoot "songbooks" I bought when I was in high school in the 70s: all the words and piano music for IYCRMM, ODR, and "the Gordon Lightfoot Anthology Volume I." Well, I'm still not much of a piano player, but OH, the pictures in those books!! Let's see, I have a scanner now. I can scan them, save them and somehow e-mail them, right? They are (he is) gorgeous!!!

Ya know, I see those on ebay once in awhile and since I've been asked repeatedly not to play the guitar sing or hum I never saw the point to buying one.

Now I see the point . . .

Please please post them if you can. John will explain the whole process to you. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif

Hey Sheryl, I have an idea. Since some of us don't want send pictures and we all buy Gord's CDs what if we all sing and make him a CD from us? Not that all of us can sing (me) but I figure with a little overdubbing nobody would know.

Sheryl Klein

O.K., for those of you who don't want to send pictures, just e-mail me a couple of paragraphs about what Gord and his music have meant to you and I'll be happy to put it down in a scrapbook to give to him. Here's my e-mail AGAIN for those of you who would like to contribute - and PLEASE do!! Let's try to thank him for all the pleasure he's given us. Sheryl97@sbcglobal.net

Some of us who have been posting here for a few years sent birthday wishes annd thoughts to Gord a few years ago. I delivered them to the office in Toonto after Florian printed them out. Maybe the newer posters who weren't involved with that endeavour could help you out.
the postings for the birthday wishes in 2000 are at: http://www.corfid.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000422.html

I might be interested in your scrapbook, but this is the first time I've really looked at the BB since the holidays began. Trying to put together this scrapbook over the holidays creates some difficulty because I'm sure that some of our regular posters are distracted by the holidays. Once people settle down to work and routine again, you will probably get more responses. I'll see what I can do within the week. Thanks.

Yes, I remember you talking about that birthday card, Char. Well, whoever wants to add to this can or can't, as they wish. And, yes, I can see how the holidays have kept people busy; there hasn't been too much posting here lately. Sheesh, what -- people have a life or something??!

OH NOOOOOO, not the carved bears!

I have this thing about carved bears. Whenever someone up here buys a new house they now feel obliged to buy a carved bear for their front deck or yard. And let me tell you, some of those bears are uglier than others. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif The little buggers seem to be procreating like rabbits.

Seahawk, that is TOOO funny! When I was on my honeymoon in Northern California, I saw lots of those bears! And, yes, most of them are might ugly! (They're supposedly made with chain saws!!) I'm shuddering, too, at the thought of one sitting at stage left Waiting for Gord!!!

Elizabeth, I'm just asking for a picture, if you wish, and/or a few paragraphs of what you'd like to tell Gord. I'll put it into a scrapbook and give it to him at his April 24 concert in Agoura Hills, California. My e-mail address is listed a few posts above.

Oh.... I love that one picture of Gord in that white suit.

I like your picture, Gloria! You look so Canadian even though you live in the States.
(Canadians always look so warm & friendly & easy going! I guess that's because they are, eh? LoL..)

I don't know how to post a picture but next time you guys are at eBay you csn look up my Katamar user ID. There's a picture of me there. It's obviously not a recent one & I suspect that my darling daughter once took a pencil to my teeth now that I look at it! OMG! LoL.. That BRAT!

I love the scrapbook idea but anyone who doesn't want to add a photo can draw a stick figure, etc. I'd probably use one of Shania Twain just to make him laugh. He'd go, "Yeah. Right... You wish!"

I once had a moment alone with Gordon when I asked him about where he was & what he was doing when he heard that Kennedy had been assassinated. He said he was filling his gas tank in Toronto & asked why I asked. I said because every single Lightfoot fan has a story about the moment they first heard him
seared into their memory. He was astounded. He could hardly believe it. He stopped tuning his quitar & tilted his head & looked me straight in the eyes. Sort of searching my eyes & silently asking, "Really? Is that a fact?" I just smiled & nodded "Yes." and he smiled. He was so pleased but also very humbled about it.(then I told him my own story)

I think it would be so nice if everyone were to take a scrapbook page with their name and maybe a picture to put a face to a name.. plus your website ID would be nice. And then tell your own story about when you first heard him & why it meant so much to you. I'd recommend keeping it to 1 page.. he gets kinda antsy. (LoL..) Just another idea to toss around. I can't get over all the neat scrapbook supplies at the crafts stores. I know you guys could make a gorgeous scrapbook. It would mean a lot to him.

I wonder if the little 5 year old girl from a Cleveland concert is at this website now - all grown up? It was around 1986-87 when I took her backstage to meet Gordon. SHE WAS A WRECK! She loved Gordon so much & he thought she was so cute. I'll bet he remembers her because she was so choked up. She was shaking & everything. She was beyond adorable!

I'll go back to lurkng occasionally now. Have fun with the project everyone!

~Kate

It would be great to meet up with you, too, Steph. Is anyone else going to the Agoura Hills venue?

O.K., so Kathryn, is this the picture you'd like me to include in the scrapbook for Gord? If so, let me know and also send me some words of yours to go along with it for him.

Steph, the easiest way to get your pic to Sheryl for the scrapbook is to email it to her as an attachment. As for posting it here, I'm afraid you'll have to find John's tutorial and follow his directions (it's repeated in several threads, you'll have to do a search for it). Not that I ever wanted to post pictures here, but I did try to read through it just so I could say I learned something new, but could never get very far as I'm always getting interrupted and it is very long. It is, however, a detailed step by step of what you need to do. Based on the results of others' attempts, it works real fine.

Thanks to whomever it was who posted the picture for me. (egads that thing is huge! LoL..) The group here has always been so kind & generous.

Sheryl... I've just reregistered under this ID because I can't remember the password to my orginal ID. (MidNightMisty) I used to hang out here a lot while I was seriously ill. (5 years ill - 2 years agonizingly slow recovery) Like Gordon, it was a freak gastro thing that knocked me to the floor & then kept me there but I'm OK now. Just trying to get my strength back. Anyway, I know how Gordon and Maheen feel being helplessly ill.
I actually had to scrape & claw my way through each & every moment to get through what I went through. It profoundly changed everything about me. I wonder how Gordon's experience has changed him? There's just no getting around it.

But lately I've been so busy living life again I haven't had much time to visit. I know I've missed a lot but I peeked in more while Gordon was ill. I was worried about him. I was worried about myself. What a mess.

Have a great time at the concert! (I'm originally from San Fran) Is this your first one? Please forgive seemingly stupid questions - I have a lot of reading to catch up on!

Take Care,
~Kate
