I don't know - sort of sounded like a Monkees' version. It WAS 1965, there was a lot of musical cross-pollination with people doing everybody's songs, moving from one band to another. I'm not a deadhead but it sounds fairly typical of the "throw everything into the pot" (no pun intended) style they had. "Mindbender" ain't bad. And "I Know You Rider" is pretty good too. One reviewer described it "like the Archies on MDT" - you young'uns will have to look up the Archies for an interpretation - I'm not sure who these days would be comparable.

Okay I am an old hippie, I didn't mind it. It was just one of those things, how cool though that the Dead thought enough of the song to record it.

There are probably more Dead bootlegs and other recordings around than any other group. There must be a huge number of live concert recordings, nearly all of them "unauthorized" in the traditional sense, with a vast catalog of same to be swapped among fans. They realized early on, I think, that it was the ticket paying fan in the seats that brought in the money, not the album sales. No wonder you can continue to hear the "what a long, strange trip it's been," over more than 40 years.

As long as you don't sell them, profit from them, or tape in such a way that infringes on the concert experiences of others, non-official releases of Dead music are officially permitted to be traded.

I wouldn't have minded it either had they each had a bucket to carry their tunes in. The concept was great - the Dead singing Lightfoot.

thanks for that, interesting stuff (Gord has said he's good with any cover except he likes the melody and chord progressions to reamian true, more or less...this is a little less, lol)

i guess TGD must be a group you needed to see live to fully appreciate...or even partially, lol
