When it comes to listening to my car radio, I have the worst luck finding a channel with some good songs. (my friends can come across songs I like within a few seconds of scanning, but I do not share their good fortune)
Which channel would be the best channel for hearing a Gord song come on?

HI again Highwayman
yet another very good question
My obvious cheeky answer is
"try the IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channel
#gordonlightfootchat any Friday evening at 9pm
EST and you should find several knowledgeable fans there to help you in your dilemma

If you ever want to get into satellite radio,
Sirius satellite radio's "The Bridge" channel plays him quite a bit. On Sept. 29 they'll debut a channel called "Coffeehouse" that will be devoted exclusively to singer/songwriters, and I'm sure Gord will be a staple there.

Highwayman,if you want to hear just Gordon's hits (the four top 10's from the 70s he had) then search your dial for an oldies station.
Adult Contemporary stations sometimes play "Beautiful" and "IYCRMM" & on rare occaison "Carefree Highway".
For any other Gordon Lightfoot, satellite radio at home isyour best bet. Personally,I avoided all of that and just bought each and every one of his albums and put 'em on tape! (Except Harmony & Early Lightfoot.)
