Showdown #23
Dream Street Rose 12
Dreamland 9
Showdown #22
Triangle 15
Ghosts of Cape Horn 9
While you are all trying to wrap your brains around ranking songs for Don Quioxte or Cold on the Shoulder, how about the next showdown of songs. With this contest, you only need to consider two songs and then vote for the one you enjoy the most. I try to compare songs that have a similar musical theme or lyrical theme. In today's, matchup, the topic of islands is discussed. Interestingly both songs appear on the albums aforementioned. I chose them because both make me think of being on holiday in the summertime in the Canadian northland (and it is summer). Which do you prefer:
Christian Island
or
Seven Island Suite
Have fun.

Oh, I do like being first...
very difficult choice, I love both of them, but I listen to them according to the mood I am in... they don't fit the same mood for me...
that being said, I am choosing:
Seven Island Suite
tough one...

on the lean Christian Island???
I think you mean:
She's a good old boat and she'll stay afloat
Through the toughest gales and keep smilin'
When the summer ends we will rest again
In the lee of Christian Island.

On my list (of 150 fav's),I ranked Seven Island Suite in the top five,so,
I'll stand by that one and just say that "Christian Island" is second to that by a mere decimal point! ;)

This is a great poser. Christian Island, mellow, a bit dreamy but in a masculine kind of way, beautiful singable melody, contentment itself. Seven Island Suite, with its visions for a different way of approaching life, its clarion call to honor authentic life and break the cycle of banality ("you seem to think because you've got chicken-to-go you're in luck"). CI's a great, great song, but SIS is a much bigger one. SIS by a hair.

This is EASY! Christian Island is a nice ditty, but it's not even comparable to the depth and texture of Seven Island Suite, which REALLY encompasses most of Gordon's best lyrical and songrwriting strengths, in terms of the visual impression he creates, and the spirit of that impression evoked with the melody. Seven Island Suite is certainly a top 20 Gordon tune. It transports you to the shores of the great lakes, and reminds me of my visit to the "Thousand Islands" region on the St. Lawrence River. http://www.cnn.com/2006/TRAVEL/DESTINATIONS/08/04/st.lawrence.river.ap/index.html
