A question to Betty (Sundownbuff)

I have given this question some thought today. I was a teenager then and this is about a lot of years ago, over 35 years ago I think. I was very interested in this really cute Canadian Boy that hardly let me cross the city line of Toronto before he flagged us to pull over.(Which we did of course.) This was the folk era before the beetles were so popular. On this small stage was a very good looking singer that I remembered as being taller than he really is. He had an accent when he said "O" sound more like oot than out, if you know what I mean. He did very little talking and sang several sets. I wish I could remember songs that he sung but I was really interested in Johnnie but Gordon left an impression on my mind as when I heard "Remember Me" (I'm the one who loves you, I knew it was Gordon. I can say that I have seen him perform live in five decades. I wish I had a more exciting tale to tell but I was a hot teenager (Not that hot) interested in this blond, blue eyed boy name Johnnie, what more can I say Frank.

I just a few weeks ago found out that my uncle (by marriage) was a Lightfoot fan. My aunt and him used to go to the cofee shops on Yonge St. in the 60's and see all those folk singers that performed back then. Ian and Sylvia, Dylan, etc. All these years and I never knew that! I was shocked. He was shocked that Gord is still out there doing it! My uncle is 78 now and said he thought Gord was a fine young boy!

I want to answer accurately but sometimes concerts run together in my mind but I will try to be correct. I remember one year in the mid-70's. I saw Gord at the Kleinhand's music Hall in Buffalo. It was the fall of 1974 (I think) I was between husbands and went with my sister. There were a lot of people there. Gord was very popular then, Sundown was the song they clapped loudest but it was at that concert, I think, that I heard the Auctioneer. Now, I could be wrong about that because I had also been to a concert in Rochester that year. I wish I could be sure that I was accurate but you know the mind has a way of playing tricks on you. I remember hearing the Auctioneer. I couldn't believe that anyone could sing so fast and could be understood. Rick Haynes looks pretty much the same as does Terry. He had longer hair then. Girls screamed very loudly but I remember there were many guy fans also. I believe he sang Old Dan's Record. I don't believe I have been to a concert that he has not sang that song. Of course I don't remember all the songs. I remember he was very handsome and I went home and certainly dreamed about him. I can honestly say he has always been polite and appreciative to his fans but he is more so now. I also can honestly say I enjoy his concerts and music more now as I appreciate the stories he tells about his experiences in life and have lived through some of these heartaches.

Frank - I was 45 in July! 1970 when I was 15 was when I really started to care about music and bought Lightfoot and Kristofferson albums. They still remain my #1 and #2 favourites.

Yes, I confess I was and still am a twister. My preschool class gets a chuckle each year when I get out the old tunes and twist for them. And yes, they were the great 60's tunes. My husband is three years younger than me (A thousand music years) and alas not a Gordon fan. Though he dare not turn my music off. How did I get on that subject.

knottypine, Is't that neat. My oldest daughter will be 31 next week. She was the one who took me to the concert in San Diego and of course had her picture taken with Gordon. She also enjoyed the company of Rick, Terry, and especially Mike and Barry. She has introduced her three children to Gord. They listen to his CD's in the car. What a mother she is. Raising her children right.
