I sent an email to the SHOF on the 4th and got a response today. Bob Leone responded and said that Gord has been nominated but has not garnered enough votes be inducted, and will continue to be nominated until he gets enough votes. I want a membership list.

From Bob...

A committee, made up of members of our Board of Directors & consisting of
SHOF inductees, major publishers & other industry professionals, chooses
20+ nominees each year. Then, a ballot is mailed to specific members of
NAPM, our parent organization. You must be a Professional, Executive or
Lifetime member to be eligible to vote. Those nominees with the greatest
number of votes are then inducted.

bust the ballot box with Lightfoot! bust the box I say. bust the box as it will overflow with votes.

<<Over the last few years, Bruna, he's been up against performing songwriters like
Sting, David Bowie, Phil Collins, Barry Manilow. These folks are still
quite active. Gordon's just not as high profile & I believe that's why he
does not garner as many votes.
Bob>>

This is what Bob told me yesterday. Imagine, talent takes second place to high profile!
Maybe the release of 'Harmony' will lift his profile and come Fall, they will vote him in. He certainly has earned the right to be there.

Barry Manilow! Barry Manilow?! The Copa Cabana guy? You've got to be kidding. No comparison.

I once heard a joke about Manilow: If he ever decided to become a cocaine addict, he could snort up the entire country of Peru in one snort.

Well, not to detract from any other singer/songwriters (after all, Manilow was prolific in his day, if not particularly good), but COME ON!!!!! The answer that Gord hasn't been that high profile of late is the lamest excuse I can imagine! For crying out loud they've inducted Stephen Foster and a whole lot of other dead people!!! Are we to surmise they would have given Gord his due if he hadn't pulled through last year? High profile my a**!What a lame response from an obviously lame outfit!

I totally agree! And I told him so !

P'haps we should target some of the media voicing our disappointment/displeasure ?
Just an idea ...

I find it hard to believe that Gordon has not been inducted. But I doubt if Gordon himself would loose much sleep over it.

However Barry Manilow is a different proposition. Does anybody rememeber the great parody by Ray Stevens, "I Need Your Help Barry Manilow?" A very funny song. For those of you who have not heard this song, you can catch about 63 seconds of it at this address.
