sorry i hit the return key and it sent again. please forgive i am learning how to type again from the brain injury. i will not keep referenceing that but if yuse guys know at least you may cut me a little rope oon belay the Q was really meant to be: when i last remember chatting around 1998 - 2000 i remember seing all postings live as they keyed in or at least it seemed less formally structured. I know i know HTML programming and grudgingly brought my old 4th generation programming up 2 GUI interface, but and this forum is a splendid show of excellent programming, but i just miss the informality of the old line by line as if we were talking to one anpther .. anyone ?
"I've been around for a half a hundred days..."
"I think I heard... someone stirring...."
God I love that song.

Geodeticman,
First of all, welcome to the group. What a great bunch of people I have met through the music of Lightfoot!
You would probably enjoy the chats we have on Friday nights, they are "live" and it is a real time conversation with whoever is in the chat room. There is where you will find informal conversations with quick response as though all of us really were sitting in a room together. This forum is more like a message board, where you post your commments and wait for people to come by and read what you've written. Hope this helps with your question.

Geo, you'd probably enjoy Friday night chats. I really enjoy them. The problem is, usually I'm snoozing on the couch when chat starts. I've got to set an alarm or something.
Here are a couple of links to the chat room (compliments of John F), which usually starts at 9PM:
1.(if you already have mIRC installed):-
http://lnk.in/37sd
2.If not this link brings up a page that should load a Java applet:-

By the way, you don't have to wait until Friday night. If you want to have a chat on another day, announce it here, preferably early in the afternoon, to give everyone a chance to see it.
