I found the song "There Is Love" also known as "The Wedding Song", sung by Gordon Lightfoot. I found it on the net. However I cannot find it sung by him in any music store. I wanted it for my wedding. I have found it on cd by other singers....but its not the same as by Gordon Lightfoot. Anyone know why its not on any of his cds?

Cher, I have been a fan of GL for over 30 years and I have never heard even a rumor that he sang that song.

The only version I have ever heard was by Paul Stookey, I believe.

My wife and I had "Beautiful" played as my wife walked down the aisle.... That was over 25 years ago and we are still going strong....

Because he didn't record it - whether he's ever sung it live is another question, but I don't think so. That's one of those songs floating around download sites with the wrong artist ascribed to it, possibly as part of a collection of 60s or 70s hits. Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary recorded The Wedding Song. Other songs listed under "Gordon Lightfoot" on places like Kazaa include "Time in a Bottle" (Jim Croce) and "Brandy" (Lookinglass??).

If you want a Lightfoot song for your wedding, try "Beautiful", "Anything for Love", "Whisper My Name" or - a bit of a stretch - "Fine As Fine Can Be".

I know the song was written and first recorded by Paul Stooky (Stookey?) of Peter, Paul and Mary. I did a quick search on CD Universe.com and nothing came up under Paul's name. I then went to Kazaa.com and typed "Wedding Song" in the search field, and what do you know, one entry was listed as having Gordon as the artist. So I downloaded it. It was the Paul Stooky version..poorly uploaded, you could hear the
record clicks and pops...so someone thought it was Gord, even tho they had the record right there to upload. Anyway, it's not Gord..but Paul Stookey.....

Did you get this info off of Kaa Zaa media?
They always have the wrong names with songs.

Not kazaa media per se, just what came up after doing a search under "audio" files, then "song" then typing "wedding song".
It's fun to see how much incorrect info comes up as to artist/song.

Any way the wind may blow
Any way I stub my toe
I'll prove my love to you..
is a wonderufl song for a wedding

in the 70s John Denver's "Annie's Song" was played at almost every wedding all over the world. Try that or Gordon's "I'll Prove my love"

I know for certain that if GL had ever sung the above mentioned song,we all would have heard it by now (or read about it if it was unreleased). On one of the seperate GL sites there is an alphabetical list of his songs, both released and not and that was not one of them. I think whoever had the website that said he did sing it,probobly didn't bother to check to see if that was right. I have Paul Stookey's song and I can sort of see how someone not familiar with GL's music or Paul's might make that mistake. Most people just lump in all '70's country/folk & AC artists together and really don't see the difference. I wish Gord had done it,cause it would be a really great addition to any LP he would do or has done. It's been me,outta here and Alberta Bound! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
