A few days ago Oma had a dialogue going regarding strings arrangements. I was just re-LISTENING today to Sundown. (Listening, as opposed to just having Gord's music playing as a backdrop for other things.) Give a listen to "Is There Anyone Home." This piece has superb orchestration by Nick DeCaro. He was truly a genius and it is such a shame he's no longer with us. His styling on this song was far better than I remember it being. If you haven't done so lately, it is time to give Anyone Home a re-LISTEN yourselves! A treat!!!

HI! Somewhere Up In Michigan! We're on at the same time! Borderstone here, just off work and here at the library that just opened at 12pm. I certainly will go home and give that a listen and let you know my take on what you posted. You know, despite Sundown being the LP that gave GL his only #1 single,it seems to be very underrated and underestimated. Not just by critics but by the casual listener that might only judge him by his hit singles. As you know,I rate all of his lp's 2 & 1/2 stars or better,so I definetly know there's more to recording artists than hit status. Borderstone, outta here and Alberta Bound-a! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I did (really listen) and it is (a treat!)!!!! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

I LOVE the orchestration in GL music...especially in "The Watchman's Gone" which follows immediately after "Anyone Home"!

During "Is There Anyone Home" doesn't Gord say:"just like a wandering minstrel, I've
dawned in the house of a thousand delights.."
Minstrel...dawn...alluding to the IYCRMM
album????

The orchestration on Sit Down Young Stranger is also worth listening to.

Rob 1956.: quote:"just like a wandering minstrel, I've
dawned in the house of a thousand delights.."

I feel that the actual lyric is:

'Like any wandering minstrel at dawn in the "house of a thousand delights!"

Of course I could be wrong.

The actual words are:

"Like any wandering minstrel I've dawned in the house of a thousand delights."

So you were both partially correct.

Thanks Border...glad you enjoyed it again. I find myself playing Gord's music all the time but only being able to sit down and really listen and appreciate it at certain times. That song just really stood out to me as I was seriously giving Sundown another listen. I knew others would enjoy being reminded of it!

So many times when I'm driving or puttering around I will have Gord singing and of course singing along, the next song will start and I will realize that I never even listened to what was playing, I just was going along with it. How nice to be reminded to listen. It just makes you fall in love with some of these songs all over again. Thanks, I will pay attention a little more now.
